I will be entering the officer corps as an FNP. I have 9 years prior service enlisted and will be an O3E. By most promotion standards, I will need 3 years in grade and 10 years in service to be eligible for promotion to 04. My question is does my prior service time count toward this service time requirement or does it mean the clock restarts and I will be waiting 10 years to be eligible for rank? Curious how this affected other RNs who entered service at a higher rank due to work experience (with or without prior service).

I promoted to 1LT a couple of months into my time at my first duty station due to previous ER RN experience and constructive credit awarded, but I did not get to pin on CPT any sooner than usual. Not sure how it will work for you, maybe @jeckrn will have some insight.

I believe the enlisted time in service will count.

So I think your time in service is fine. What is your date of rank? I made CPT in OCT’15 and I’ll be below the zone this year. CPT to MAJ longer then 3 years. Let me know if you have any questions!

Not in yet. I will either be CPT when I get in or only a few months away from it. More curious about when I go forward given that I start out two-three ranks deep.
