Are you talking about Occ Health in the UK? If so, the NHS can't afford expensive tests to detect cannabis.
However, some Occ Heath depts have sniffer dogs and if they detect any naughty cigarette use you'll have a gloved fingered up your ar*e before you can say 'but I only held it for someone'.
I really don't believe thay your name is Breather - did you inhale?
Cheers

Hi Breather I had my occupational health screening yesterday for my application to do mental health nursing.
Usually you get forms sent with you depending on which University you applied to. They usually ask for a brief summery of your medical history.
Also if you have had you jabs MMR, Tetnus, polio diphtheria,
Heb B, TB jabs Meningitis jabs.
Ive never been asked if i have taken illegal drugs not that i do but i am around people who smoke the cannabis joints
My advice would be not to worry to much about your one encounter with cannabis as long as your not a frequent user. If they ask whether you have taken any illegal drugs be honest and say you tried it once recently as you quoted.
Also i would advise you get the exact dates of any jabs you have had from your GP or nurse practitioner. And possibly start your Hep B jabs as these have to been done over a period of time usually three injections.
Hope this helps a little
Lou

There are two ways to look at this.
1. At times, honesty may not be the best policy - say nothing and don't incriminate yourself. Who's going to know/find out? If you do say something, you may not be accepted into nurse education. You've hardly got a major crack problem or heroin addiction, although wacky backy can be the start of that slippery slope......
2. At times, honesty is the only policy. You are a potential nurse and will need to be an honest and trustworthy character when you register with the NMC. Spill the beans and let others judge you. In your defence, Bill Clinton did it and he was the most powerful man on the planet at one stage. And you won't do it again.
Moral debate anyone?

in an ideal world the poster could be honest and expect to be told not to do it again and be allowed to get on with it, unfortunately we are unable to judge the opinion or views of the occupational health assessor about people who smoke the odd joint of weed:smokin: if the person has a liberal view you may get away with it, but we have to remember that some people would be horrified that a potential nurse had tried illegal drugs (dont forget cannibis is still illegal) so personally i wouldnt admit it at all, what would be the point, if they dont test you then why admit it and risk refusal, however maybe it would be a good idea to think about why the poster feels the need to smoke drugs in the first place, is it a regular thing? if so then why?
we have all got to bear in mind that we are not supposed to bring disrepute on our profession by our actions in public (there a re a few so called celes who have fallen foul of this), admitting to taking drugs probably falls under this umbrella along with selling your naked pics to the news of the world!!!:roll
