I am applying for the BADNAP (accelrated nursing program) at OCCC in Feb. and was wondering if anyone on here has completed it. I have heard great things and I have heard terrible things so I just wanted to get some additional insight. Thanks!

I work with a guy who's wife graduates from the BADNAP program at OCCC next week. He attests to the fact that she has had no life but she managed. He said that she held on by the "skin of her nails" for the first 8 or 9 months but I think after that things got a little better.
I also have a dear friend who was accepted into the same program and after the first two weeks she dropped. She said her time was more precious to her than to spend every waking moment studying or at school. Of course, she already has a very successful career outside of healthcare.
Hope this helps, good luck to you both!

If I make it past my progression exam on friday I should be graduating next week. What kind of questions do you have. You could email me if you like.

I have a quesiton for all BADNAP students and grads. I want to know how hard is it. Can you squeeze in 8 hrs of sleep in a night and have enough time to eat at least twice a day? I know the word "intense" is used a lot. But is the program do-able and can you get good grades (like A's and B's)?
I do not plan on working a job while I'm in the program (if I get accepted).
Also what is the rating for this nursing program. Is it a good program? I know it is accredited (by CCNE, I think). How are the instructors? Nice?
Are there any out-of-state or international students who are in the BADNAP? I know you can't take the NCLEX-RN in Oklahoma if you are not a Oklahoma resident. Am I right?
Thanks. (I am just trying to get a feel for what life would be like in nursing school)

looking at their website you can sit nclex but a license will not be issued unless you can provide documentation of legal residency. this is what is stated
verification of citizenship status: new legislation takes effect november 1, 2007, requiring the board of nursing to issue a license only to u.s. citizens, nationals and legal permanent resident aliens; and to applicants who present, in person, valid documentary evidence of:
1. a valid, unexpired immigrant or nonimmigrant visa status for admission into the u.s.;
2. a pending or approved application for asylum in the u.s.;
3. admission into the u.s. in refugee status;
4. a pending or approved application for temporary protected status in the u.s.;
5. approved deferred action status; or
6. a pending application for adjustment of status to legal permanent residence status or conditional resident status.
applicants in the above six categories will only be eligible to receive a license card that is valid for the time period of their authorized stay in the u.s., or if there is no date of end to the time period of their authorized stay, for one year. the license card is required to indicate that it is temporary. the information will be verified through the systematic alien verification for entitlements (save) program, operated by the u.s. department of homeland security.
ok application form
if you are an international student you may qualify for opt once you complete training but is only valid for a year and if retrogression is still ongoing then you will have to leave the us if you do not have a immigrant/work visa allowing you to remain in the us or you maintain your student status. suggest you check out the international forum under the region tab above.
I don't think you have to be an Ok resident. However there are some issues if youare an international like stated in the other post. I graduated last march. I have been working in critical care since may and I feel like it prepared me as much as a classroom education can. Intense is a good term but it is very doable. good grades are also do able but do not plan on making straight A's. we graduated about 30 of 40 in our class and 2 made all A's. I went to all classes (which is not mandatory but I would advise going) did my lab and clinical time, studied and still had family time. Infact my daughter was born 3/4 of the way thru and I didn't miss out on a thing.
The instructors over the program are great. Lecture instructors vary because they try to bring in people with more experience in the area you are covering. If you have other specific questions feel free to ask you can even email if you like.

Hi Dsteele,
I am looking at the OCCC BADNAP course (that's quite an acronym) Anyway, I wanted to know how competitive the admissions are. I am in the process of doing my prerequisites at this time. I had like a 3.2 GPA in my undergrad but I've taken quite a few courses since I graduated and made all As.
Any other tips you may have about the program would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi all,
I've applied to the BADNAP program and just wanted to see if anyone else has. If you have completed the program or are applying to it for summer 2010 Iwould love to talk with you.

I have applied to the program for this summer! I am sooo nervous about it. I turned down UCO's program in hopes I get into this one. I am hoping that pays off...I just couldn't stand the idea of being in school for 2 1/2 more years!!!
Anyone know how many people applied this year or how many students they are accepting? The counselor said that they will let us know within 30 days whether or not we got in. Is that what you heard?
