  1. Hey, I was just checking to see who all will be attending the OCCC BADNAP program starting this June. If you are, let me know~:)
  2. Hey Guys, I was out of town for a week so I apoliize for the slow response. JC I wouldn't take anatomy and chem during summer but thats just me. They are both very time consuming. If you think you can do it, go for it. Walkby- I picked baptist, deaconess, midwest and SW in that order. Also, have you gotten your CPR certificatio yet? If so, where at?
  3. Hey JC It's not gov subsidies but subsidized loans which just mean that you get a lower interest rate. You won't have a problem getting loans to pay for nursing school and you can even find a hospital to pay for it but you will have to work for them for some time after you graduate. Look at the websites for the hospitals in your area and there should be a section about scholarships if you want to go that route. You can always get private loans for school even if you already have your bachelors degree.
  4. Hey, no problem. Navigating the nursing school prerequ/application process is very ridiculous. I did take anatomy and physio seperately. I should have taken chem first but I enrolled before I knew about all of this and just did what my advisor suggested. Don't make that mistake because it will haunt you later if you are on a strict time schedule. To take micro and physio you must have already completed chemistry. To take anatomy you don't need to have completed chem. Due to the requirements of those science classes you can only take one during summer. So if you want to have all those classes completed by jan 2011 you have to take chem in summer and the rest during fall. As for financial aid, you will qualify for around $2,000 in gov subsidized loans and more in unsubsidized loans. Be careful with private and unsubsidized loans though. They charge horrendous interest rates and can be hard to pay off. Also, if you decide to take these classes the books are VERY pricey. Go to Valorebooks.com and you can find the exact same books for those classes but in the international edition. They are soft cover and $60 per book instead of $200. For chem, I didn't buy the brand new edition, but the one before. Exact same book but with a different cover and some different practice problems. The book I bought was $3.00 on amazon and worked perfectly. The new edition was around $100. Just some extra info that helped out a lot. School isn't cheap.
  5. Hey JC It's doable but you will have no life. I had to do it and it wasn't fun. If you do want to go that route you have to take Chemistry during summer because you need that complete do start physio and micro. This does mean that you will be taking physio, micro and anatomy at the same time though. This will be incredibly though but since physio and anatomy overlap and complement each other, you may be able to swing it. From my own personal experience Anatomy will be the class you have to worry about. It's the main weed out course for pre-nursing students so be warned. I have my B.S. in Economics and anatomy was by far the most demanding course I have ever taken. I was also working full-time so that may have something to do with it. I think that if you go into this schedule knowing it will be your life for a semester and are okay with it then you should do fine.Good luck and if you have any questions, let me know.
  6. Hey everyone, I got my letter today and will be attending the OCCC BADNAP program. Anyone else out there going to be in it with me???
  7. I've heard the ABSN program at OU is very competitive. Something like 200 applicants for 40 spots. Insane. Let's hope that OCCC's program is not quite as competitive. I'm really anxious to get the letter from OCCC too. Fingers crossed!
  8. I do have one more question...do you know if occc offers any of the science prereqs online or as intersession courses? I would still need to take four science courses before applying for next year's program but I am concerned about getting all the courses done before the application date. Thanks for your help! Hey, I don't think they do because all of the sciences have a lab component. I was in the same situation that you are in last semester. I ended up having to take micro online through the colorado community college consortium. OCCC accepts it because you do the labs at home with a labkit you have to purchase. It should be a last option though. It's very expensive and the most time consuming class I have ever taken. You don't know busy work until you take this class. For me, I had to do it. In order to apply for the OCCC program you have to have all the pre-req's completed by january before you can apply even though the program starts in June. I personally think this is absolutely ridiculous but whatever, I don't make the rules. I do know that OSU-OKC offers Chem 1314 during summer intersession. I would think long and hard about taking it though. It's taught by the head of the science department and only 1 month long. That means a chem test a week plus lab EVERY DAY. If you think you can handle that much chem, go for it. I was enrolled in the course but had to drop it and ended up taking Chem 1214 during the normal fall semester which was VERY doable. A note on OSU-OKC chem courses as well, if you plan on applying to either OSU-OKC or OCCC then Chem 1214 will work (it's much easier). However, if you plan on applying to OU or UCO, chem 1214 won't transfer as their chem requirement. You HAVE to take Chem 1314. No one told me this when I enrolled and unfortunately I found out too late to change classes so I couldn't apply to the OU ABSN program. That was really long, sorry about that. If you have any other questions, let me know
  9. hey...you said that you know a lot of people who went through the OCCC program. Just wondering, what have they said about the program, as far as difficulty, quality, competition for entry, that sort of thing, if you know. Thanks! Hey guys, I can olny tell you what the counselors told me. When I turned in my application they said that the average GPA accepted for entry into the program was a 3.3. That may change this year though because of the economic situation so many people are going back to school. If you have anything close to a 3.3 you should definately apply though. From what I understand a good percentage of the people wait-listed for the BADNAP program get offered spots because people will get accepted to multiple programs and choose one over OCCC (like Amy). I've been looking into the program for a while so if you have any questions I would be happy to try and answer them. Good luck!!
  10. Hi Amy, So you are applying to the ABSN at OU. I know a lot of people who went through that program. If you get into that will you choose it over the OCCC program? Also, could you post when you recieve your OCCC letter? YOu don't have to tell whether you were accepted or not. A general time frame to expect the letterwould be great. Thanks so much!
  11. Amy, The counselor told you 30 days? I called the nursing department and they told me 8 weeks. OCCC is not the most well organized school though so who knows.I think they are accepting 60 in this coming class but I may be wrong.
  12. Hey Tiger, I applied to the BADNAP too. Do you know when we will know about acceptance?
  13. Hi all, I've applied to the BADNAP program and just wanted to see if anyone else has. If you have completed the program or are applying to it for summer 2010 Iwould love to talk with you.
  14. Hi all, I'm looking for some guidance. I'm about to start my accelerated BSN program. I have no medical experience thus far and am looking for advice about how to gain expereince while doing my program. I've been looking at extern programs but they seem to be mainly summer internships. This won't work for the accelerated program because I won't have a break until July when I finish the program. What are some other ways of getting experience so when I graduate I can actually get a good RN position? Any suggestions would help. Thank you so much.
