OCCC Nursing Fall 2011

I was wondering what everyone's GPA and Preference Points were, also I was wondering if the new math placement test is as hard for everyone else as it was for me (I couldn't make the minimum requirement for the 2 preference points) so now I only have 15 preference points with a 3.3 GPA. I don't think I will make it in because of the math test.

Is anyone taking principals of chem and lab this summer? I am. Hope it's not too hard in the short time.

Who is your teacher? I took it during the spring '10 semester. The teacher I had was good, but tough... And really, I think the difficulty of the course depends on the teacher. If you have the same teacher, then taking it in the summer won't be impossible but still a bit of a challenge.

Just so ya know.... I still have my book if they are using the same one!

MMM I was shooting to get shore but he wasn't teaching the class :( I don't know who it is yet they haven't posted any names. I would love to buy the book from you if its the same.

I had Raymond, but I've heard Shore was good too. I just checked occc's online bookstore, and they're using the same book for this current semester (double check for summer though). Just let me know when you want it!

I think they should lower the math test score for preference point or maybe do like the did before and have 3 separate scores for the three separate tests because I made a 90 in the first test an 88 on the second and 60 on the last, so it's pretty obvious that the third test is really hard. I took the tea's test without studying and passed. It's just really frustrating that the math test is what is going to be the deciding factor of if I get in or not. I'm pretty sure were not going to be multiplying radicals in nursing school anyways.

hey jlhutch, did you apply to the traditional nursing pathway or a different program. i didn't know if i was up against people with a bachelors degree? also, if the chemistry book is in fact the one i need, how much would you want for it?

yeah, i did apply to the traditional program because of all the nightmares i've heard about the badnap program. i've talked to a couplel others who are doing the same, but it's not like there is a lot of us.

does $45 sound okay? my email is [email protected] if you want to email me.

Of the nursing applicants I know, only one of my friends did not pass the math placement exams or TEAS. Every other person I know rcvd all 9 points for the placement tests...

I also know that most of the people I have come across had 17 or more points. With GPAs higher than mine, the not-so-impressive 2.764. Also, when I talked with the advisers, I was told upwards of 300 people apply for the program. However, only half of those applications are valid/completed/qualify. Then, you know the rest... The TOP 72 move on!

Anyone have an opinion on Microbiology instructors or have a book to sell for the class?

My opinion:

In Chemistry, Shore was excellent. In A&P, I am being tortured by Choate.

I'm currently taking micro with Pope I think she is really good and helpful. She can get a little brain scattered but she will let what to study for the test and what not. So t

That way you don't waste.time. studying for stuff that's not even gonna be on the exam. If you thinl you are being tortured by choate. Try taking A&P I. And II in one semester with him. That is complete torture I did it last spring oh my.but on the good side everytime he says"you need to. Learn this because you will see it again on micro" LEARN IT cause you will see it again on micro

i know, everyone i have talked to has at least 17 points. i thought i might have a chance with the normal 200 applicants but 300?? ouch i did not pass the math portion so i only have 16 :(

i have heard great things about shore but i'm not able to take him. hope i don't get choate, i hear he is hard.

OMgoodnesssss! That is EXACTLY what I'm doing this semester?!@$%!!! I just finished A&P I and now into A&P II with him. I am worn out, to say the least! :sstrs: Last night, I studied til 2:15am, took a 2 hour nap fully dressed!, and woke at 4:15 to study for the exam we had today... WHATEVER it takes, right?! I am starting a support group for CHOATE Surviviors... :hpygrp:

Hey that is exactly what we are SURVIVORs. So how many students are left now? 'cause when we started A&P I we were like 30 by the end of the first 8wks we were down to like 10, and only 5 stuck around for the 2nd 8wks. The class is really NOT that hard, this guy knows his stuff, I honestly like the way he teaches, the only problem is TIMEEEEEEEEE, my god everything comes at you so FAST you barely have time fo anything else. Just hang in there it will be over before you know it.
