OCC - for Fall 2012 or Jan 2012 prospective students!

Published

Hi everyone! Okay so I decided to make a seperate thread for those of us seeing what our options are because we got the dreaded letter from OCC. It was getting hard to filter out the information pertinent to us in the general OCC thread.

I just want to tell everyone not to give up.

I had a meeting with a counselor yesterday, who basically assured me that any drastic changes made to OCC nursing admission policy could NOT be implemented in the very next admission cycle. He said that he had been a counselor for over 16 years, and the last time they made a drastic change (like from waitlist to gpa based) they grandfathered in everybody who would have been 'caught up' in the transition.

I had a 3.824 gpa. I had three classes that were not straight A's (An A- in both american government and english composition two, as well as the dreaded B in A&P 1). I am retaking all three and am going to seriousely aim for all A's. The gpa cutoff is gonna be a 3.9 something and I don't want to have to worry about not getting in again. I am going to do my best to get all A's.

I met with the counselor to discuss my options and see what to do at this point. I was considering going LPN but I don't think i'm going to do that anymore because my biggest aim is to get my RN as soon as possible. The LPN to RN transition program is only offerred every even year. What this means for us? If I were, for example to start the LPN program in January of 2012, it would be over in like March of 2013. Then I couldn't start the transition program until like July of 2014. Then I wouldn't be done with the transition program and have my RN until December of 2015! This versus the ADN RN program, which would start in the Fall of 2012 and finish in like early May of 2014.

Good luck to all of those still trying! We can't give up!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations for those who got in! I was wondering if anyone out there knows about pharmacology assignments or activities? I would really like First year ADN student to guide me how to go about studying pharmacology as I have 2 months before the class starts. I am an OCC student. Please tell me about teacher(s) of pharmacology. Thanks in advance.

Mama P you are very positive and encopuraginf person.... thanks forbuilding confidence in others.

Has anyone taken medical terminology? I'm considering taking the class for summer II. I'm trying to decide if I want / need a break or not. I just wonder how useful it will be .

I'm a nursing student at a different school but I just wanted to say medical terminology would be an incredibably usual class to take to help ou throughout the program.

Study the syllabus thoroughly along with your notes. Tape all lectures. It's not that bad. I never read the book. IA with what whosurdaddy said a long time ago and that it's the easiest nursing class you will have, so enjoy!

Thanks alot QuarterLife88... I am new to this website ... am still figuring out how to get best out it.... I am in Monday's class..... I believe the teacher is really good.... I hope she allows us to record the lectures... Plz let me know any other resources which can be useful for pharmacology. What % of dosage calculation is part of test.. I mean should I buy the text and practice as I have ample time right now??

You found out what class you're in already? How/when did they let you know?

You only have one 10 pt question dosage calc test and it's the third week I believe. It's pretty basic. You need 9/10 to pass, if you fail, you can take it two more times to pass. On blackboard (after they set it up for you) under the nursing department tab, you can find level one practice tests. If you still need help, you can sign up for tutoring right before the exam. Really nothing to worry about.

I didn't use any other resources for pharm except my notes/syllabus.

Actually I got an email asking for my choice and later confirmation too.

Actually I got an email asking for my choice and later confirmation too.

I'd be wary to assume that the confirmation email meant that you were scheduled into that class, rather than that the admin who received your email was just confirming that she received your e-mail and will review the choice.

When I sent my email which included my 1st and 2nd choices for pharm to the department, I also received a response - but it was only a response to confirm that the email was received by the department, not that I actually got the class I wanted. The due dates for the paperwork is March 23rd, I can't imagine that they would fill the classes before everyone has been accounted for. They may fill them on a first come first serve I suppose... I can't be sure how they fill classes but that was my thought. Even if they did fill them first come first serve, I wouldn't bank on anything until I received the "paperwork" (bill) just to be sure. I'm not trying to say you didn't/won't get that class or anything but I think once the dept has the schedule figured out then everyone will receive notification at/around the same time and in a more "official" way.

Also, kind of on topic, did anyone recieve an e-mail that the monday morning class (830am) has been rescheduled? I didn't opt for that one anyway but I wanted to put it out there in case anyone else did. I think it's been moved to 230pm or something around that time.

I did get the notification about the Monday class being reschuduled as well as the list I will be included in. You are right may be it is too early to assume things. Share any info you have about OCC nursing classes plz.
