OCC - for Fall 2012 or Jan 2012 prospective students!

Published

Hi everyone! Okay so I decided to make a seperate thread for those of us seeing what our options are because we got the dreaded letter from OCC. It was getting hard to filter out the information pertinent to us in the general OCC thread.

I just want to tell everyone not to give up.

I had a meeting with a counselor yesterday, who basically assured me that any drastic changes made to OCC nursing admission policy could NOT be implemented in the very next admission cycle. He said that he had been a counselor for over 16 years, and the last time they made a drastic change (like from waitlist to gpa based) they grandfathered in everybody who would have been 'caught up' in the transition.

I had a 3.824 gpa. I had three classes that were not straight A's (An A- in both american government and english composition two, as well as the dreaded B in A&P 1). I am retaking all three and am going to seriousely aim for all A's. The gpa cutoff is gonna be a 3.9 something and I don't want to have to worry about not getting in again. I am going to do my best to get all A's.

I met with the counselor to discuss my options and see what to do at this point. I was considering going LPN but I don't think i'm going to do that anymore because my biggest aim is to get my RN as soon as possible. The LPN to RN transition program is only offerred every even year. What this means for us? If I were, for example to start the LPN program in January of 2012, it would be over in like March of 2013. Then I couldn't start the transition program until like July of 2014. Then I wouldn't be done with the transition program and have my RN until December of 2015! This versus the ADN RN program, which would start in the Fall of 2012 and finish in like early May of 2014.

Good luck to all of those still trying! We can't give up!!!!!

you can go to the highlandlakes online bookstore and it will show you the list of books

Congrats to everyone who got in!! I also got in, i'm super excited. It was a lot of hard work and took a lot of PERSISTENCE, DETERMINATION and COURAGE, and we deserve to celebrate . Also to the one's who didn't get in just remember those three words above and you'll do just fine.

Also, I called the nursing dept to see when we would find out what class we get in to for Pharmacology, she told me that she gave just about everyone their first choice. Now if you're like me I didn't put 1st or 2nd, I just put X's in the two that I really wanted, which was Tue/Wed and she said then she gave me my first X(which would be Tue). Also the teacher who is teaching that day, my friend who also got into the program say's she is REALLY NICE, she know's her family!!

Best of luck to you all,

Heather

I'm sure they will let us know everything when we go in for orientation, I imagine that will be in April sometime. On the website it has instructions for the background check, which is $95! Along with fingerprinting and all the health forms that need to be completed. I have already went and got my physical along with the titers for all my vaccinations, just to stay on track and make sure I get everything completed on time. They also said that the finger printing usually takes a good amount of time, and we will not be able to start until that is completed. :)

American Red Cross: Professional Rescuer American Heart Association

(AHA): BLS/HCP American Heart Association:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Red Cross or AHA certified BLS instructor

Those are the ones listed on the website that are accepted for the program, hope that helps :)

I think orientation is in July, just judging by last years message board. If i got my first choice for pharm I should be in the wednesday afternoon class.

When we find out when the orientation is, we should all get there a little early and meet somewhere outside the buiding or something and say hi :)

^^^^^^^Sounds like a good idea to me.

Hi Everyone,

I am anxiously waiting for the nursing info packet. Does anyone have new information about 2012 nursing classes, primarily pharmacology? I just bought the text from amazon. Please share tips and feels free to advise how to ace pharmacology.

I spoke to the nursing office today regarding a question I had. They told me that the info packets started going out today.

Thanks for sharing brodygirl! Hopefully by this week we should all get it. I hope they send us the pharmacology syllabus too.
