I am so offended by this. This girl doesn't owe you anything! There is no woman alive who is required to respond to you just because you're interested. You can't call "dibs" on people. Be thankful that she was polite to you as long as she was. You made her feel unsafe. You put up this 'nice guy' ploy, but if you turned into psycho hulk the minute you don't get what you want; then newsflash, you were NEVER a nice guy. You were a creepy man with an agenda who acted like a child that didn't get what he wanted. I feel REALLY sorry and scared for this girl. This is 100% sexual harassment. In fact, this post needs a "trigger warning" on it. I was uncomfortable reading it, I cannot imagine being the girl at the receiving end of your wrath. I rarely say anything negative to anyone but I feel compelled to tell you that you may not find success in nursing if this is your MO. Nurses rely on non-verbal cues to perform and often need those non-verbal cues to save lives. You NEED people-reading skills and non-verbal comprehension to keep your patients safe. Nothing in this post is telling of safety. It is the opposite.

you do have to order/pay for your background check by April 30th though....Just in case anyone has forgotten. I might've lost track of time but Misty reminded me.

I'd be wary to assume that the confirmation email meant that you were scheduled into that class, rather than that the admin who received your email was just confirming that she received your e-mail and will review the choice. When I sent my email which included my 1st and 2nd choices for pharm to the department, I also received a response - but it was only a response to confirm that the email was received by the department, not that I actually got the class I wanted. The due dates for the paperwork is March 23rd, I can't imagine that they would fill the classes before everyone has been accounted for. They may fill them on a first come first serve I suppose... I can't be sure how they fill classes but that was my thought. Even if they did fill them first come first serve, I wouldn't bank on anything until I received the "paperwork" (bill) just to be sure. I'm not trying to say you didn't/won't get that class or anything but I think once the dept has the schedule figured out then everyone will receive notification at/around the same time and in a more "official" way. Also, kind of on topic, did anyone recieve an e-mail that the monday morning class (830am) has been rescheduled? I didn't opt for that one anyway but I wanted to put it out there in case anyone else did. I think it's been moved to 230pm or something around that time.

I believe it is Nursing Fundamentals Demystified, kizeemimi mentioned it in an earlier post. I haven't picked it up yet but was thinking of making the trip to the bookstore this weekend.

Micro was the most difficult class I took. I ended up with an A in the class...actually ended up with a higher overall percentage in this class than any of my other pre-reqs and I just applied to my program with a 4.0.. However, Micro was the only class I literally cried though, I hated it. My professor was brilliant BUT not easy to follow AT ALL. I found that reading the chapters myself, translating what I read onto paper and re-reading it all in my own words really helped my understanding. I took notes in class to see what parts he empahsized as I thought we'd more likely be tested on that material and made sure to understand that thoroughly. Even thought I thought my professor was brilliant, his way of teaching wasn't working with me, so I abondoned his methods and self learned. I also thought animations such as this Animation: How the NAD+ Works aided in my understanding of the more complex processes. I would watch them over and over until I understood. Good luck, don't give up. One of my favorite movies, A League of their Own, there's this quote that I always think of when when something seems impossible... "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great." Jimmy Dugan you can do it! :)

well if anyone hears anything about the GPA cutoff this year, let us know! Unless my app was missing anything or I my GPA was miscalculated I should be fine, but I do have a couple friends with 3.9somethings so I am curious to know for them too...

I think they program takes 216 people...I could be off by a few but it's around that. Of those spots there were 40 4.0's last year, or so I read. # of 4.0s has probably gone up...people who didnt get in last year were counseled to retake classes. But there's no way all 4.0s applied, so don't stress :) The number of 4.0s is probably still pretty close to last years #

Nothing from OCC in my mailbox today. Totally dissapointing.

I agree with Anne36, If you can retake the lower of the two classes that were not A's (or both and shoot for A's) and try for A's in A+P I&II you can still apply for OCCs program and have a good chance at getting in. OCC is the only area CC I know of that is strictly GPA based and has no wait list. So if you finish up A&P1 this semester, take A&P 2 and intro to soc summer...maybe Govt in the fall to boost to a 4.0 as well as pass their Math proficiency test you can apply in dec and be in by next fall 2013. BUT they are changing admissions for fall of 2014 so that you'd have to take a comprehension/math test...5 classes are weighted by GPA, retakes count against you and transfer classes may count against you (they didnt specify but I'm thinking in a tie situation). So if you are serious and want to get into a program without waiting forever OCC is a good choice, but you gotta wrap up your prereqs quick. Best of luck to you!

New admissions process for ADN is up on OCCs nursing website Prospective Students Looks like instead of MPT, there is going to be a comprehension/math test that must have an overall 75% pass. There is a fee to take this test, and it can only be taken twice. They cut down the GPA based classes, from 11 to 5 -- GPA is weighted on Comp 1&2 or equiv, Micro and A+P1&2 Retaking classes for a better grade will result in a lower score, and transferred classes may count against you also. I am not sure what the 'may' count against your score means exactly...possibly that in a tie situation a student whose done more pre-reqs at OCC takes precidence ...and I think that is currently part of the process. The other classes are still required, but are not factored into GPA for admissions. C or better in those classes, similar to what is required now for chemistry.

Also, I was on the nursing website today and read that the changes to admissions are set to take place for fall 2014 admissions Prospective Students If anyone is interested... So that means next year is soley GPA based as well. Thought I'd post because I know it comes up pretty often. Hopefully none of us will need to worry about it, but if anyone is curious there it is.

AHHHH! I just want it to be tomorrow at noon so I can check my mailbox! How am I supposed to sleep now?! Plus, I'm in macomb county, I wonder if it will take longer to get to me. Hope not. Glad someone called :) I was wanting to but I thought they might have been inundated with calls and I didn't want some overwhelmed receptionist to snap at me lol
