Hi everyone! Okay so I decided to make a seperate thread for those of us seeing what our options are because we got the dreaded letter from OCC. It was getting hard to filter out the information pertinent to us in the general OCC thread.
I just want to tell everyone not to give up.
I had a meeting with a counselor yesterday, who basically assured me that any drastic changes made to OCC nursing admission policy could NOT be implemented in the very next admission cycle. He said that he had been a counselor for over 16 years, and the last time they made a drastic change (like from waitlist to gpa based) they grandfathered in everybody who would have been 'caught up' in the transition.
I had a 3.824 gpa. I had three classes that were not straight A's (An A- in both american government and english composition two, as well as the dreaded B in A&P 1). I am retaking all three and am going to seriousely aim for all A's. The gpa cutoff is gonna be a 3.9 something and I don't want to have to worry about not getting in again. I am going to do my best to get all A's.
I met with the counselor to discuss my options and see what to do at this point. I was considering going LPN but I don't think i'm going to do that anymore because my biggest aim is to get my RN as soon as possible. The LPN to RN transition program is only offerred every even year. What this means for us? If I were, for example to start the LPN program in January of 2012, it would be over in like March of 2013. Then I couldn't start the transition program until like July of 2014. Then I wouldn't be done with the transition program and have my RN until December of 2015! This versus the ADN RN program, which would start in the Fall of 2012 and finish in like early May of 2014.

well if anyone hears anything about the GPA cutoff this year, let us know! Unless my app was missing anything or I my GPA was miscalculated I should be fine, but I do have a couple friends with 3.9somethings so I am curious to know for them too...
I got my letter today! I got in! I'm so relieved, even though I had a 4.0 I had myself worried that some weird thing would happen and I wouldn't get in. I did submit my application back in October though, so maybe they are processing applications in order? Good luck everyone, I hope you get your letters on Monday.
No mention in my letter of an accelerated track or the GPA cut-off.
I wish the mail came on Sundays.... or that we knew the GPA cutoff. I kind of think its weird that they are telling people that they have had a lot less people applying this year. I kinda wonder if they are insinuating that the GPA for this year went down or if they just weeded out the weaker GPA's. I'm totally stressed out.

Ace, my brother applied with a 3.86 last year and didnt make it:( hes a candidate for 2013.... But the program is very good.. And sad, u meet the most amazing people and end up dropping or not making the b- requirement, some by 1 or 2 points:(, my suggestion is hang out with friends and family as much as u can while u wait, because once school starts, u will miss out on A LOT.
i couldnt agree with occ2012 more. im in my last semester and you will be lucky if you see any of your friends or family for the next 2 years (other than 8 weeks summer vaca) the course is so stressful, every semester you watch more and more friends fall by the wayside. we are under 50% right now from the 217 we started with and that doesnt include anyone who may have failed the last semester. i cant imagine failing a class by 1 point but i know 4 people who have and several more that failed by under 5 points.
i wish all of those waiting nothing but the best, all those who make it a relaxing summer and those who dont the encouragement that the entrance requirements have changed so at least you wont need a 4.0gpa anymore to get in
Hey guys I just called the Nursing office and they said GPA was 3.869 or 3.69. I was way to excited to listen very well because that mean unofficially i'm in!!! I can't wait to officially get a letter in the mail hopefully today!
