Published

Hey everyone! Im back for my second application into the ADN program at OCC ::sigh:: As I did in the thread I created last year, I am creating a new one for all those applying to the nursing progam for next fall. Lets keep in touch and keep one another updated. Good luck guys!!! :)

Less than a week to go everyone!!!! I'm Soo excited, but my arm is hurting me from the hep. B Shot :):)

^I got a titer for hep b but actual shots for hep a, tetorifice, and menigitis though only one of those was required. My insurance covered it and I was due for them, so I said, "why not?"

Ugh I feel crappy after the shots. One of them has inflicted low-grade, flu like symtoms upon me :(

Anyone doing CPR on May 13th?

That Hep B vaccine was no joke! I am just now getting over it today and I got vaccinated a week ago wed! Hope the 2nd and 3rd go better!

Started Pharm yesterday.

A lot of reading but I think she'll go mostly by the slides. I guess this is where we learn the power of skimming the text.

I'm more worried about the calculations than any of the content, tbh.

I start Pharm tomorrow. I've been trying to get thru my learning activities before class but I have little ways to go :-(

You'll be fine. Skim. Most people in my class didn'te ven read and a few didn't even have the book yet!

Reading before class can help, yes, but I survived A&P and Micro without ever reading ahead. Focus on the PP sections in the book and skip the fluff.

Thanks! This may be a dumb question (or maybe its cause I just woke up lol), but what's PP?

Hee, hee, sorry. PP = power point. I'm not sure who your instructor is but mine uses them. Definitely ask to make sure where most of the test questiosn will come from. purchase an n-clex review book when you can. Lots of extra dosage calc. questions there and also Appendix D I believe in the syllabus has a lot of them! I'm practicing now because the math test is in two weeks and I do not want to fail!

Good luck. The info is not complicated, that's why I recommend skimming because a lot of it also seems like common sense, at least for now before we hit the drug classifications.:D

Also, for anyone that has taken pharm before,c an you tell me how you studied, if you thought it was hard? etc.

I feel like I get the material but my studying is all over the place. I'm doing all of the nclex questions at the end of each section, and skimming the readings that match the PP. Is that OK? Or do teachers throw out extra book questiosn never discussed in class?

ifyouseekamy: pharm is by and away the easiest class in the program. that being said, the best way to find out what your prof is going to test on is to ask them, how the best way to study for the exam is. most of them will give you a straight answer. usually if there are powerpoints those are where most questions will come from, there is always a few questions from the book, I think they do that just to see if your actually reading. if i remember right pharm is mostly knowing what the major drug classes, actions and side effects are, so study those. dont sweat the math test too much either, i dont know anyone who has failed out from the math test. i dont know anyone that even failed twice. and get use to them, you get to take them every semester from now on. (fun, fun, fun)

Amy, I would just stick to the powerpoint and lecture. I would record my lecture and listen to it before the exam. I got an A, it is not that hard compared to some of the pre-reqs like Micro and A&P. If you can do those, Pharm might seem easy.
