OCC - 2010 applicants / 2011 ADN prospective students

Published

Hey everyone! Im back for my second application into the ADN program at OCC ::sigh:: As I did in the thread I created last year, I am creating a new one for all those applying to the nursing progam for next fall. Lets keep in touch and keep one another updated. Good luck guys!!! :)

Specializes in Geriatrics, dementia, hospice.

To occ2012 and those yet to receive their letters, when I faxed in my acceptance form, I was told that the OCC nursing office would contact accepted students from whom they don't receive replies. I think that's great and very kind, since it prevents those accepted from slipping through the cracks. So, there's no need to worry.

Also, if you've moved since you applied to the program, you might want to make sure that the nursing office has your new address, as changing it with the administrative offices doesn't automatically change it with the nursing office.

Hope this helps!

Wendy thank you for the reply... I was starting to think maybe I didn't get accepted with a 3.9 lol....I appreciate Ur help

You're welcome, occ2012!

I took my papers to HL in person, and it felt anticlimatic, just as when I turned my application in. Lol Don't know why I was expecting fanfare or something.

I took my papers in also, it made me happy:D. :lol2:

we can all agree that the system is in no way perfect but it is what it is. i honetly think as long as you know ahead of time what the schools criteria is and how they go about their selection then you have agreed to their process. i think we can also agree that high gpa does not equal good nurse, but it sets you up for being able to handle this program. its a really hard program, and no one will understad until they are in 1/2 way through fundamentals. Really OCC needs to change the process to eliminate how long you can take to take your prereqs. if you are use to taking one class at a time to ensure you get an A then your going to be in real trouble in this program. the amount of work and stress will pretty much take out those who leisurely strolled through their prereqs over a 2 yr period.

for those of you coming in to the program, be aware that this program is not fair, you will see some of the closest friends you've made fall along the wayside. you will see people who you thought for sure would make it fail. you can acctually see the stress of this program on your friends face as they walk into the final exam with only 5 or 10 points to spare. It's not fair, you will know your right about things and still get them wrong even when you provide proof you were right, you may get a clinical instructor who hates you. you may fail a class by 1 point and watch the instructor literally shrug and say see you next year, because if you fail you have to wait until the class is offered again and that will be 9 months later. this program eats the weak. get a study group! they will help you pass the tough times. you will probably not make it through the course if your a loner.

anyway now that all the newbies are terrified i wish you the best of luck. if you pass a guy crying in the hallway next year that could be me.

It's good that you can still joke about it :lol2::lol2::yeah:

Uh oh! Whosurdaddy has me so nervous. I'm ready to form my study group RIGHT NOW! Lol. Seriously though, whose taking the Wednesday pharmacology this summer????

Wednesday is my first choice.

Yes, I was going to say that as well. That line made me LOL! We have at least 1 guy in our Fundamentals class that was from last year and he is scaring the heck out of me. I need to start getting positive and stop listening to the negative stories.

Yes, it makes you feel as if no one can graduate from the program.

C'mon now! You are such a dedicated person. You have nothing to worry. I haven't talked to that guy yet. He seems so quite though. I don't see him in my lab either. Gotta have to find out what is going on.

Whosurdaddy: Can I ask you a question? How did you do check-off for baseline assessment? I have it memorize because I heard that we are not allowed to bring the note in except for the small notepad to take note. I am afraid that I might forget stupid little thing when I have to do it. I get real nervous when I take exam.

first of all I apologize for any negativity i may have spread. the program is great but i wanted to share with you the truth about what your going to experience. i do this because i went into the program blind. no one in my class knew that if you failed a lab class you couldnt move on to the next class. there was so much that we werent told. so please take what im saying as nothing more than a friend who wants to help you avoid the things i didnt know.

Anne36..........to tell you the truth i used a memorization technique then after all that time spent, come to find out they gave us the checkoff list. i'm not saying that they will give it to you, so dont bank on it, but they gave it to us. anyway anne36 dont sweat it, theyve changed the checkoffs to make so you only have to get 50% right to pass. everyone forgets little things, so dont worry about that either.
