i am in my first year as an Oakland County Community College ADN student. when i was waiting to get into school there was nobody who was in their first year to answer questions about what to expect. SO i wanted to post this thread and answer any questions that i can for anyone waiting or starting their first year at OCC, so feel free to ask any questions you have and i will do my best to answer them.:)
they show you the formula you can use to do most of the calculations. its a little bit of algebra but it solves most of the problems they will ask.
as for the books they use the same books throughout the entire course. so if u start with a set of books, u end with those books. Cant tell you that the books they have now will be the same for 2011 RN program.
Okay but how are the tests so hard? Also if the teacher is not testing on what she is lecturing how is recording the lectures gonna help?
Addison, nursing tests are not like most tests ... there are usually more than one correct response, but u have think critically and pick the best answer. Also, some teachers test on lecture and some don't, so you need to read AND listen to lecture just to cover all bases.
first of all remember the rest of the clinicals aren't like the ECF exp your about to get, secondly don't panic, fundamentals is a weeder course designed to eliminate those who really don't belong. dont get discouraged if you struggle early, there are plenty of points in fundamentals to make up some ground. get in good with your instructor, they arent going to put you through on friendship or anything but if they know you they are more willing to help you out if your struggling. dont just be a face in the crowd to your theory prof. In clinical its the opposite, dont be the know it all, and dont be the one who sticks out. clinical instructors can be mavericks at times and some of them will just plain out hate on you. (yes thats true, we just had one fired cause 3 students dropped out of her clinical rotation). as for lab, your lucky cause they changed the way they do check offs, or gas, its much more relaxed and you only have to get 50% of the stuff right to pass. so just remain calm and say what your doing out loud, helps you, helps your instuctor know that you know what your doing..................and most importantly........study you bleep off. you need to study every free second you have. DO NOT think that you know everything because you won't. the best students study any time they can.
hope this helps and sets you at ease a little more
I have been having a heck of a time with ACE passport. It was supposed to be available in Feb and then they moved it to March 1. I still cant get into the system and I already paid for it! The people never answer their phones or messages.
Im just going to get slammed with work next week. Im trying to get as much done as I can. I got 5 chapters of Med term done but dont even know if they will accept it yet. The directions in the lab book did not fly when I took my disc to school to do the tests. (They told me I couldnt install my disc there) I had some ADN students tell me that they did theirs at home but it was a different book. I did mine at home, but there is nowhere on the paper that I can put my name, or class or anything. How do they even know this is my test? If I have to redo all this its gonna be a real time burner. The test is not the same every time, they ask diff questions. Its not hard, but its time consuming.
sucks dont it anne36
my med term had a place where you wrote your name in before you printed it out.
your med term isnt due till week 11 so relax, (as if right) and no they wont except just 5 chap, you have to turn it all in at once but you can turn it in before week 11.
as for passport, thats a major pain in eveyones behind. never seemed to work properly and they were always having issues.

Do they teach you how to do the calculations in any of the classes? Or are you on Ur own? Also do they give you an idea of the material on the test?
