Hi. I'm a male nursing student about to start OB Clinicals. Since I'm a male, most hospitals would not let me do clinicals. My instructor could only find one hospital to accept me, but the problem is that the hospital is an hour and a half from my house. I'd have to leave super early in the morning and go back home late at night. The clinical rotation is over a month and I would be using almost half a tank of gas a day. My instructor said this is the only place she could find. Does anyone have ideas of how I could get a site closer, like maybe call a nearby hospital and ask if I can do clinicals there, like as long as a woman is in the room with me, or if they just approve in general? Thanks. ?

No. No sexual harrassment or criminal behavior on my record.

By the same token, many schools, CA programs included, fight for clinical space for students. This said, many schools won't rock the boat by breaking a relationship with a facility. If this male student is in a rural area, choices may be limited.
By some of the comments the OP offered, I kinda wondered if this was some kind of troll post...
Not trolling, It was a legit concern I had due to the distance. I'll see how the first week goes before I seek an alternative.

Crazy. Glad you're ok. What I meant is, how were males suddenly allowed.

Personally, I wouldn't stress it. I got NO L&D experience in nursing school and it's had no impact on the trajectory of my career.
The guys in my cohort who preceded me into the L&D rotation spent their hours standing at the nurse's station which seemed a complete waste to me. I asked my instructor if I might seek a better clinical experience and was permitted to exchange L&D hours for NICU hours while still being held accountable for the knowledge which I sought through alternative sources.
I've been an ED nurse for 10 years as well as a rapid response nurse and a critical care float nurse. My lack of L&D exposure in nursing school has been irrelevant.
As I said at the outset: Don't worry about it.

Call the hospitals yourself. Who cares if it breaks the relationship your school has with hospitals. They obviously don't care about you. The fact that you are even thinking about spending money on a hotel + gas for 1hr+ drive is outrageous. This is discriminatory. So unless you are attending nursing school in Saudi Arabia, I would suggest raising hell.
