I am in my IB/ Pedi clinical semester. There is so much discrepancy between the texts, lecture and ati content, I am lost and confused. We had our first exam for the semester and I got the worst grade of my life, seriously!
anyone have any ideas?? Suggestions?
How do I tactfully tell faculty they are teaching info contrary to the assigned text?

For our class, our textbook and class instruction do not always go hand in hand but the instructors are good about telling us why and which conflicting information that is. We always bring up anything that is taught in class but slightly conflicting in the book for clarification. Have you tried going to office hours first?

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. Don't be afraid to ask your instructors for some clarification in what is the best direction to go as far as studying. For our OB/Peds semester, both teachers went straight from the ATI book. I opened my Maternal nursing book maybe twice. ((Not so much this semester, have to study EVERYTHING))
While it's a good idea to study everything, find what works better for you to retain the info. If you see conflicting information, ask about it!
Good luck!

ask for references so you can study better. Sometimes it is not what you say to someone but how you say it that matters. Say you want help and ask politely which of these will the test questions come from as they seem to conflict. Have your evidence in hand. Maternal child is not easy anyway, since it is foreign to most of us. I struggled and I am a mom. But I encourage you to consult with the instructor for advice

OB and Pediatrics were a little confusing for me in the beginning due to some of the discrepancies or contradictions between lecture and the book material, so what I did was go straight from the book. I stopped writing lecture notes and highlighted in the book during lecture when my instructor was speaking. I noticed that what she would say, was a simple paraphrase from the book material. So after I would highlight, I would go back and read the material in that section, and use the nclex practice book for the questions pertaining to that section. It's almost like coming home and teaching yourself the material all over again. But you gotta do what it takes to remember the content. Oh I would also You-Tube videos for everything. If your a visual learner, this will help. Good Luck

::raises hand:: "Ms. Smith, my notes from Tuesday's lecture say that XYZ, but when I went to refresh them from the book by Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe chapter 3 says XzY, and sometimes ABC. Could you help me make sense of that before we go on?"
