my husband volunteers in the summer with a ym enrichment program for kids ages 7 - 12. one boy is named "spencer" and nicknamed "spenny."

what makes that so funny (at least to us) is that we rescued two cats whose names were spenny and kenny! our vet said those names were so close that a mistake was just waiting to happen. sooo...

we began calling spenny "spencer" sometimes.

I was really surprised when I worked at a girls' camp this summer how many boys' names I saw on the list. Some names can easily go either way, but others I think are a little too masculine for these little girls. Ryan, Dillon, Tyler, Spencer, Logan, Michael, Shawn. My favorite was Miles. Who named this beautiful little girl Miles?

I was watching a PBS show about genealogy a few days ago, and one of the people they profiled had an ancestor named Mellitus.

FWIW, I believe this word is derived from one that means 'honey'.

Tantric Coyote . The parents said it had some sort of Greek meaning, but it just sounds like its MidEVIL or something...

I think one of the oddest names I have come across is Tuff, which I guess would not be too bad but his last name was Guys.

I took care of a baby whos young parents had named her "Metallica". Must have been their favorite band or something. All I kept thinking was thank God their favorite band wasn't "Meat Loaf"!
