What's the weirdest baby name?

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

This is acually fun to peruse:

Popular baby names

That was interesting to look at!

Neither of my sons has a name that shows up on the top 20 list for his birth year, yet neither one has an odd or unusual name.

It's also interesting to see how some names wear well- Emma is on the list for 1900 as well as for 2005, whereas other names, like Bertha, tend to sound odd to us now.

Thanks for the link!

My grandmother who was a social worker ran across two kids named.....

Pajama - PAJ-ah-mah and

Mattress - ma-TRESS

wonder where the kids were conceived?

I was really hoping this site could be used as semi "proof" of a name, I tried all the ones I doubted existed; like "lady parts, lemonjello, orangejello, meconium", they were not listed.

But then I tried some unusual names that I KNOW exist; like Neveah, it doesn't show up either. It's actually listed as number 70 on the popularity list for 2005 on the social security website. Also tried Gunner; kind of unusual, but I've seen several people (not just newborns) with this name, and it wasn't on this database.

Oh well, I really wanted it to be comprehensive.

Damn. Same experience. Apparantly I do not exist in the U.S., due to my weird last name. Here in CA, Jadon is a popular name for boys, but according to that site, there are zero Jadons.

Montserrat, for a girl.

Nice, I suppose, but she was in the NICU and someone made her a cute name sign. At first glance it looked like "Monster rat"

Not a first name, but...

I just noticed we have a doctor on staff named Dr. Nutter. Psychiatrist, of course.

My friend named her babies Ridge and Hunter. Another family I know gave the baby initals of I M A Stone. They always add an (errrr) to the end! Why?!? Torturing the poor baby and he's not in school yet!

I know of a podiatrist named Dr. Finger

When I had my son and the nurse asked what I was going to name him, she said, "Great! First name all week I can spell and pronounce!"
