  1. I work for Healthcare Partners, (now Davita HCP) and this was news to me. Davita is such a large, world wide company. It is not going anywhere. They did settle a suit in Texas last summer for the same allegations, but were never charged by the feds. But allegations are just what they are. Every large company has several lawsuits every year. I worried for a minute.. But, I'm over it. I don't think they are going anywhere.. Charges like this will be years of battle.. And Davita, is still one of the best centers. Put in your app. You'll be fine. (Plus- there were changes in reimbursement that took effect in 2011- which is why the allegations stop at 2010).
  2. Yes, but if you read the article they are attempting to expedite and rush through the process to get a US contract. The following is not based on anything but my own opinion- but... Remember, the Government chooses their contracts through the "bidding" process. Sometimes it's a matter of who offers the cheapest price.. That's why Walmart has been so successful- try finding anything there that's been made in America... If I had time I'd include facts, but I just don't have time tonight..
  3. Wow. You must be desperate. I think that the tone and condescending attitude, shows just how much YOU have not done any research or even really read any of the posts. In fact, your inflammatory remarks are insulting and don't relate to the actual debate. You have not shown anything supportive or of substance in this debate. Only a sarcastic attitude, with offensive statements made to hurt feelings, or infuriate. Which is not productive, nor is it convincing, or funny. If the Government or employer, told you to jump off a bridge because: it's good for you, would make you stronger, protect other people from you, and if you didn't- you would loose your job- ??? would you ??? You might be ok. Other kids are doing it. Or you might break your neck, or your back, or drowned, or maybe you just get a headache. Whats the big deal? After all, it's only your life. Whats that worth to you?
  4. Yes.. and No - we will be dealing with them and very soon! They will be manufacturing H1N1 vaccine, right here in USA.. Take a look.. http://www.reuters.com/article/internal_ReutersNewsRoom_ExclusivesAndWins_MOLT/idUSTRE5746VY20090805
  5. I tested positive for ppd- and had a reaction to the INH prophylactic meds- and could not finish them because it was killing my liver- but here I am still working- should I have killed my liver on a hypothesis that someday I might actually be able to pass it on to others- even though the INH was destroying my liver- and only lessend those chances by a measly 20%? Medication is different for everyone- and thats a risk that should be carefully measured by the one who has to injest or inject it.
  6. All vaccines I had already from childhood, (even the MMR- and I still acquired Rubella).. Those vaccines you are not forced to get annually. As for childhood vaccine, it is my opinion that the rise of autism speaks for itself, and although is not proven- remains highly suspect.. But that is a different debate.. As for who made them and whats in them: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/thimerosal.htm That link is for the CDC and just a few years ago read very differently. It wasn't until people started asking questions- that they started their damage control tactics. My point is- it never hurts to ask questions, do your research and then ask yourself if the benefits out weigh the risks- because every one is different, but share the same risks, it should not be a "blanket policy", you should be able to make that decision on your own terms.
  7. Ok.. Well the propaganda surrounding shots adds to the publics "panic", and I think that you have then proved my point. Educating people how to protect themselves is a much more realistic approach than saying take this shot or else- even though it may not work, you may not need it, you may react to it, and it's no one else's fault if you choose to take it and have a reaction, or get sick anyway. Instead I think it gives the wrong message to people and takes away from the importance of the alternantive methods of keeping yourself healthy. There should be a sense of urgency on promoting these alternatives to the shot. Maybe it should be somewhat mandatory for those who don't live a healthier lifestyle, those who have many risk factors. But don't put me at added risk for other peoples choices to live less than healthy lifestyles.
  8. Thank you so much for your post. Wow! These shots are not vitamins folks. You have no idea who made them, whats in them and how they have been tested and approved for safety. I'd rather take my chances getting sick the old fashion way.. Anybody have swine flu?
  9. It does because it is a medication- I don't get your reference, I don't see how it relates. The issue is that I do not want to be forced to put a CHEMICAL in my body for the "sake" of protecting OTHER people when there is also no guarantee that it would work and 2- NO protection or compensation should that injection give me long or short term complications- period. It has been proven that WASHING YOUR HANDS IS THE FIRST AND FOREMOST PREVENTATIVE MEASURE IN CONTROLLING OR STOPPING THE SPREAD OF DISEASE. (not a shot) Even if you get the shot- You still need to practice this as #1 and CRAM THAT DOWN EVERYONES THROAT. I prefer taking care of myself, washing my hands and living a healthy lifestyle and getting the occasional cold and flu from my kid- to build up my immune system naturally and not have to worry about MINOR or SEVERE complications resulting from a shot. And I shouldn't be penalized if you choose to heavily rely on this shot and choose not to ACCEPT the reasonable natural alternative. Shouting fire if there is one saves lives, and shouting when their isn't one still does not physically affect anyone, so again- that does not make any sense to me. But you are entitled to your own opinion- but it should not be forced upon me to accept.
  10. The problem is that FORCING people to put CHEMICALS and god only knows what else, into their bodies is not ETHICAL and should be against the law. :smackingf No one talks about the potential risks associated, nor their safety or the 100 times the RDA of Mercury in them. Do it if you want to, if you believe the propaganda, if you believe that it will help you personally, go for it- It's your right to choose to do so. :yelclap: It's just like any other medication and carries just as much risk- and NO protection or compensation if you have a reaction. That makes it my right to decline it. I am just as important to my patients and I have a right to my opinion. :deadhorse It does NOT make you a danger/killer to your patients if you decline the vaccine, especially if you are diligent and conscious about hygiene, handwashing, ect.. Holistic care is NOT practiced enough. And that is what is dangerous. We can't rely on pills and shots to keep us healthy. We need to live healthy lifestyles, with healthy food, vitamins, exercise.. HANDWASHING IS THE SINGLEMOST PREVENTATIVE THING YOU CAN DO TO CONTROL AND STOP THE SPREAD OF DISEASE! How do you "boost" your immunity without ever being sick? I can't wait to have a patient with swine flu cough all over me, that way I can get it now- naturally, before it becomes the plague- as the media has hyped it to be. The drug companies have their hidden agendas and part of that is big contracts with the government. Just look at childrens vaccines and the rise of autism. That's a whole other controversy.. :angryfire Good for you if you don't care if you get the shot or not- but I do and WHATEVER my reasoning is- it doesn't matter- because it is my choice.. If a hospital wants to put forth their policies, they should do it WITHOUT risking their employees- LIKE EDUCATION...
  11. Hi! I just came back from Orlando after being there for 2 years. Both Seminole and Valencia are really good. In fact most of the colleges have on-line programs, so you do 90% on line. Of course not your clinicals!! Be prepared for Monsoons in the afternoons in the summer. Traffic on the 4 can be bad, but nothing like the 405. It is the headless driver state. No one knows how to drive- especially when it's raining. The job market sucks. Be prepared to make only $14-15 an hour if you are already an LVN, unless you go into homecare or Long Term Care.. Personally, I loved it there! If you don't end up loving it like I did, yiou can always come back. At least you would have tried! You will never know if you dont try! I would take your sister up on that!
  12. We were required to all through clinicals... Total patient care as if you had no CNA's.. No problem for me, as I was a CNA for many years...
  13. ink10300 replied to MzGurl's topic in LPN, LVN Corner
And here I thought I was the only one. As a nursing student in clinicals the respiratory therapists thought it was great to have the students empty ALL the canisters in patient rooms- there were a lot of trachs on that floor. I complained to the instructor and she got us out of it.. As I get older, my gag reflex is weaker..
  14. Stanley-RN2B: I appreciate your candor and willingness to explain. I was a CNA for many years, I was a manager, however, I supervised other aides. I had a hard enough time with that drama! I can't imagine handling the nurses admin issues as well. It's not that I don't believe a CNA is not capable of managing, I certainly was! I guess my better judgement has the best of me, because of the situation I have at my work. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to explain.
  15. Again, no offense, but a CNA disciplining me on my nursing duties is not only inappropriate, but condescending as well. Med errors? Do you know enough about meds to discipline me on this? Not that it is rocket science, but, certanly takes extra knowledge and experience..Not just scatty knowledege of policy and procedure. A nursing unit manager, I can handle. The DON, great. Even this would be ok, in small doses: "Any situation that is not directly related to 'nurse' only activities can however be handled by anyone. Discipline, management of staffing levels, education on anything not nursing specific, enforcement of corporate policies (even if they are nursing specific) all fall under me, a cna." I would question the DON that gives this power over the nurses, especially on a clinical level. If it's a clinical issue, it is not your decision, it is your responsibility to hand it off to the DON. "These things are passed up the chain to me. I decide on the facts of the issue and then either act on them or pass them to the DON. At all times I am under the supervision on the DON." For instance, I am not legally authorized to "withold a medication". I have to seek the advice of the physician, and put into order his recommendations. For instance a high PT for a coumadin patient. I just can't say, well I'm not giving it, and leave it at that. The answer is obvious. But I still need the advice and recommendation of the physician. Everything else administrative you can have... Question? Are you still on the floor? Are you working as a CNA? I'm glad you cleared up the fact that: "he DON of course has final say over anything and anything I know I can't handle or involves something that requires nursing knowledge or nursing experience automatically goes to the DON. Even I have specific rules under which I operate." But the way you keep saying your "over" people is really scary. You are making yourself sound like the hall monitor. I know your not trying to come across that way. We are all a little defensive. You are administrative. Not clinical. I have an administrative director over me, and of course their are non clinical managers, but not they do not supervise, or claim to, clinicals.
