You have a person with lady partsl candidiasis. She has a reaction to miconazole so the usual over-the-counter stuff can't be used. The other choices of Mycelex (which I think is clortrimazole) works poorly. What do you suggest that doesn't require a prescription? Any old time remedies we can recommend to this person?

According to the yogurt research by Sunny it looks like the Go- Gurt would be the EASIEST to use. It doesn't even need an applicator. Good work, Sunny. :kiss

:chuckle Okay, you guys, stop joshin' before all the serious posters run away from my thread!! :lol2:

I dunno...I thought knowing Vegas, she might prefer the Whipped...

Naw... it's already whipped... she likes to do the whippin' her own self.

Not an RN (yet) BUT...maybe I can help anyway! My son used to get terrible yeast infections--thrush and diaper area. He was allergic to nystatin and with the regular creams, the stupid stuff would come right back as soon as we quit applying it. Anyway, what was a lifesaver for us was Gentian Violet. I have used it for myself for lady partsl yeast infections and it works...you just have to watch out for the purple staining. LOL Anyway, you can make sort of a mini-douche using gentian violet and some water, or you can use a tampon dipped in gentian violet. Usually one application is enough. Maybe that will help? If not--just ignore me...

Gentian Violet hands down. Must wear gloves and stains EVERYTHING it touches, worse that Povidine-iodine.

vinegar and water douche and or mild betadine douche followed by plain yogurt with active cultures. had several patients swear it worked great.

Thanks, all!! Just one question - can you get Gentian violet over the counter??

I got it (gentian violet) at Wal-Mart. They had to order it--took a day I think. It was OTC, but behind the counter. It was under $5 for a bottle that was about 2oz--and a little of that stuff goes a very long way.
