U.S.A. Michigan

Hi,

Is anyone on here applying to Oakland University for May 2010? I just applied and will be contacted for an interview soon.

Please post if you are applying, have been admitted, have had an interview etc.

Thanks :)

I have interview this tuesday!

Oakland Community College- Accelerated RN program.

Hello, I just opened my letter for the RN program at Oakland Community College. I was accepted, but I must now decide if I should apply for the accelerated program or just do the standard track. I am looking for advice. I am 31 years old, with a 15 month at home which I am taking care of full time. I do have enough of money saved to pay for school without working, so rushing to make money for bills is not a huge concern. I do not know how much harder an accelerated track would be. I will graduate 8 months before the other 250 students, which might help when I look for a job. But I don't want to fail or get overwhelmed. My GPA is a 3.85, they only take the top 60 students, so I don't know I would even make it. Any thoughts would be a great help. Thank you for your time. Brian :yeah:

I was just accepted today!

Hi wannabenurse84,

Congrats on your acceptance, that is great! I have an interview tomorrow for the same cohort and I was wondering if you could tell me how your interview went and anything to expect. I would really aprreciate it! Once again, congratulations. Hopefully we will be in the same class.

I am finishing up Biology I will be finished in May next month so from the looks of it I wont be in this cohort but Fall 2010. I just turned in my personal statement. Do they ask you all questions in regards to what you wrote in your personal statement at the interview?

Hey, Yes they would mention something they read and would be like tell me a little bit more about this particular situation. It basically gave me opportunity to expand on the subjects a little more by talking about things I didn't put in the essay. They definitely read it, had it in front of them, with marking on it.

Oh, I received the official letter today. I have two weeks to respond, it's a $150 dollar deposit.

Congratulations...The hard part is waiting to start the program next year, but its worth the wait..I applied for Wayne State for Fall of 09..Im hearing that they are only going to accept 48 in the program this year..i pray im one of the 48...We will see!

Hi everyone,

i guess wannabeanurse would be right person to get pointers from. i thought my interview went okey even though i deslike interviewing. It just happened that one of the interviewers struck a point with me and i thought that was a positive thing but who knows?

Hey wannabeanuurse have you completed each and every pre-req then? what do you plan to do before may next year beside work and save money?

Hey,

I applied to Wayne State also. It's hard to say with them with no essays or interviews or anything. I'm also in the process of applying to Eastern...still jumping through their hoops!!!! I have to meet with the head of nursing in a few weeks. I can't wait till I'm done :) I'm wait listed at UM for this fall! So grateful to make it that far. They are soo competitive!

For Bygone: No you didn't miss anything. I was told the same thing, I was shocked when I got the email less than a week later. I was jumping up and down, very surprised and happy. It must have been the banana republic suit I bought :p lol. My friend got me 50% off :) It'll be good for nursing job interviews when the program is done. It was a good investment :) Well technically I have all prerequisites done, however, I might have to repeat Pharm, Patho, and Nutrition. I took Pharm through UM nursing school and got an A. I took Patho and Nutrition at WCC. I just emailed Kristina White to see if I could have my courses evaluated. I took those courses to apply to UM's program for this fall. I feel lucky to be wait listed. I also have health care experience, I'm a state certified CNA and I'll be certified in phlebotomy in 2 weeks! :) I've been doing nursing prerequisites for 2 years, so I have tons of extra stuff that looks good. Like I took dosage calculations, ethics in healtcare, and other things. I also volunteered with a nurse in Honduras. The other thing besides school and experience, they like how my essay was well written.

Yeah, May start is fine with me. I'm getting married this summer and will be busy taking time out for myself. I plan to sign up for nutrition this summer just in case they don't take my stuff. After the summer, I really want health care experience. My phleb teacher is head of St. Joes Labs, she likes me a lot, I hope she'll hook me up! :) I think I'd rather draw blood than work as a CNA. Save the messy work for nursing school :p

Hey D,

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm sorry that I did not PM you back, for some reason it won't let me. Maybe I need to upgrade my membership? lol Anyways, the interview went very well and the woman who walked me out said I did very well. So I am pretty excited! Congrats on the wedding, I am going to be proposing to my gf this summer! Thanks for telling me about your interview, I felt much more prepared for the interview after reading what you had said. I hope that we will be in the same class! Good luck with all the other schools!
