Hello, I am looking to start the program in Fall of 2017! I'm looking to meet students and take this journey together and share our experience
@studentmom10 and @aprilee1993 - mind blown lol. That's such a cool coincidence. My husband works in new build/new product development at Ford Livonia; he's a transmission mechanic.
Lol, I never even considered flying to the UP we always drive- which can take forever if you're going all the way up. My mom's family is like that. My grandma had 5 kids my uncle is just a decade older than I am, but he married someone in between our ages- well, we both have boys exactly 1 year and 1 week apart lol. My aunt lives in Marquette and has or had a B&B in Manistique. We will def check out Brockway Mt.! Hopefully we have the time to go this year. For some reason I love St. Ignace, maybe it's the native american culture idk but I just love that town and well, it's next to Mackinaw which is my husband's and my "spot." We don't do the touristy stuff there anymore, we hike the entire island and stay at/get pampered at a local BnB. We make time to visit every year since we started dating.
@ReadyToNurse me too. I can't just sit around, I'm a type A personality and always need to be doing something- especially at work. That's why I'm considering ED. Well that and I have saved lives and there is nothing like the thrill of it and the - adrenaline/ endorphin rush that comes with it. It's like my brain works to it's fullest potential in emergency situations/ under pressure, it's so strange but that's how I've always been.
@studentmom10 which plant does your dh work at?
@bmonica22 my mail doesn't come until later today- I have hours to wait for it.
I didn't get a letter today and I am devastated and extremely angry. I did transfer a few credits but I've also took 9 other classes they told me I had to take before I applied. I passed the Hesi and everything on my application was checked off. I have all A&B in every class! I don't understand what I did wrong I really thought I was getting in since everything looked good on paper. I don't know what I'm going to do now.
Hi, My mail comes between 3 and 5, but I will be at work from 4 to 11, so I will let you know if I get anything. I'll tell you this... it shouldn't take longer than today if they were ACTUALLY mailed Monday. Because my dad lives in Ohio and mail from my place in Auburn Hills to OH takes 2 days. I honestly think they were not telling the truth about sending out the letters on Monday.
@jolenelidddel on Runtunda Dr in Dearborn and I also need to be supper busy and moving I am considering ER or surgical I love being in the heart of whats going on and being hands on especially when saving a life. Its something I really love ..I did CNA for yrs and then medical assistant in OB and cardiovascular
Ebony no you Will not beat yourself up unless you see on paper you did not get accepted. This just means they sent them later then we think and should defiantly hear somethi g tommorow for what eve reason I feel like we all will be good and I'm holding on to that till I see different you do the same:up:
@ReadyToNurse and @Aprilee1993 I worked in dementia care (specifically) in 2 LTC facilities. I loved my patients, most were the sweetest people. Dementia is a hard disease for the patients, their families, and their caregivers. That setting definitely comes with it's own set of unique problems- mostly related to the administration, budget constraints, under-staffing issues, and grieving families. I would never discourage anyone from working in that specialty - it needs more good nurses! That said it's demanding - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Hopefully, the LTC setting will be restructured by the government sometime in our lifetime and the nurse to patient ratio will lessen- and nurses will get more support!
@joleneliddell My boyfriend works at world headquarters in Dearborn. He's an IT. I love Saint Ignace. There is this little restaurant called Joe's? I think. It had a unicorn painted on the side and little teapots all over the inside. They have the BEST breakfast and coffee in the whole UP and I've been everywhere. Lol. Definitely check it out if you haven't.
@EbonyLaniqueJohnson, don't be discouraged yet! @RuGuy is right. They could have been misinformed or just lied about when the letters went out. My mail doesn't come until 3:30ish so I'll check mine before I go into work to see if it's there. If it is, I'm not opening it until I get home because I want my boyfriend to be there. If I turn into a puddle on the floor, he can help me out. Lol.

@studentmom10 I'm so glad you made this thread. I honestly don't remember what exactly I was looking for when I stumbled upon it. But now at least we all have each other! We can have study groups and everything.
I also was considering working in LTC, I have my CNA certification and work contingent at a nursing home near me. But, the nurses I work with are so overworked and are always so busy! I love geriatrics, I have been in LTC for 6 years and it's both rewarding and sad. But I agree that they often get looked over. Some of the things I've seen in the last 6 years have been the best and worst things. But I feel like having the background in LTC will definitely help in the nursing program.
