Oakland Community College Students 2017

Published

Hello, I am looking to start the program in Fall of 2017! I'm looking to meet students and take this journey together and share our experience

@studentmom10 I was hoping you'd get your letter today  . Humm so if we can't call to inquire about the letters till Monday, does that mean that people have started receiving their letter and are calling the Nursing Dept. for more information? Or is she just tired of all the phone calls lol

I really hope they were being honest about having had sent them out Friday/Monday and did not just send them out today (the last day they had to send them out).

Hopefully someone recieves a letter today! I'm in touch with a lot of my classmates, I'll post if any of them got their letters!

I feel like somebody has to get theirs today ! I need to hear some exciting news

I wont find out for hours. My mail doesn't come until 2-3pm, or later. I wonder if @RyGuy2017 got his today, being so close to campus and all.

Good morning everyone! So I called the school this morning to ask about when orientation dates were for fall and winter semester and she said they don't even have them set yet! First she said we were going to have them earlier than last years classes did, but then she said it could be later and nothing is set in stone soooo that wasn't really what I wanted to hear. My flight is April 10th and I can't reschedule it without eating a ton of money!

Also, when I called on Monday this week they said they had been mailed early that morning. So it should be anywhere from 3-5 days for all of us to get our letters depending on where we live. I live in Auburn Hills (30 minutes from HL campus), so I'm not sure when mine would be here.

My end goal with school is to be a nurse anesthetist or an NP. I'm not committed to either one because my mind is constantly changing. Also, I'm from the Upper Peninsula so I may want to move back home which limits my options.

Jolene what your cousin is saying all seems to be very true when I go there. I'm not 100% sure what direction I want to go in right now cause I think I need to work in a few areas to know. I've thought about working with the elderly or critically ill even though it's an unpopular choice. I just feel that most of us will be there one day and this population really needs the help.

@studentmom10 was it the receptionist that was upset? When I called she seemed annoyed too. But I mean in all honesty, they're getting paid to answer our questions! And our futures are hanging in the balance. Of course we are going to have questions/concerns!

@Aprilee1993 I've considered becoming a nurse anesthetist or NP too. Where are you going in April?! I love the UP, my husband and I spent a lot of time up there; this past summer/fall we stayed on Drummond Island and at Sault Ste. Marie. This year we're wanting to visit Copper Harbor- go hiking and visit the falls. Where are you from in the UP? If my husband and I could move up there when I get out of school.. we'd be livin' the dream lol, unfortunately I don't think Ford has a plant up there so if we did move.. he'd have to leave a really good job for the unknown which I can't see him doing unless I got an amazing offer.

@ReadyToNurse have you worked in long term care? I agree that the elderly need our help and deserve our respect! I love/ hate LTC - love the elderly (most of the time) hate that the ratio to patients to nurse/cna/caregiver is so overwhelming, I feel like a 20:1 system sets health care professionals up to fail and is dangerous. It's so easy to make a med error when you have 20 patients, have to pass meds 2x per shift, and each patient has 5-10 meds lol it's overwhelming.

@Aprilee1993 yes and that's how I felt! Like this means the world to some if not all all of us. And all they applied in sure is anxious to get in I thought she would be more understanding! However She seem annoyed by the calls this just lets me see how valuable each student will have to be for each other.. We will depend and need each other for the next 2 yrs! I'm up for the challenge that is if I get this stupid letter!!!!!

@joleneliddell I'm going to be in Rapid River for a few days visiting my aunt and her brand new baby- my family is young, my aunt is 30, my mom is the oldest of 4 and is 43 and I'm 24, so I'm just gonna say he's my nephew!- But then I'll be in my hometown of Hancock for the duration of the trip. My sister had a baby almost a year ago and I still haven't met him! Plus most of my family and friends are in Hancock or the surrounding small towns.

You drive through Hancock to get to Copper Harbor! It's beautiful there. If you get a chance while you're there, make sure you go to the top of Brockway Mountain. It's my favorite place in the world. :) 've been to all of the touristy things in the UP and the harbor is my favorite! But I also lived in Sault Sainte Marie for two years and that's where my boyfriend is from! He actually works at Ford in Dearborn! We moved here when he graduated because he would have more career options.

@Joleneliddel my husband is a Dyno Tech at Ford
