NYU Spring 2016

Published

Hi all

Who will be applying here for NYU Spring 2016 semester. I heard the online application should be live 2nd week of August.

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know which Private Student Loans lenders are more lenient? I have a few blemishes on my credit report and my score is around 680. I applied at Discover ( for 10 K i believe) without a cosigner and got denied... I called the Financial Aid office and they told me to keep applying and that i should try Sally Mae. Has anyone applied with more than one lender and had luck? Please let me know if you have suggestions as what lender to apply with or any suggestions that may be helpful. Thank you!

Private student loans are notoriously hard to get, it's not like the glory days of 06-08 when they were handing them out like party favors.

*shivering thinking of my undergrad private debt*

But seriously, you need a co-signer.

>90% of private student loans need co-signers.

Seriously consider a different route if private student loans are something you are going to need.

I am buried in private student loan debt from a B.S. from a private Jesuit school. The monthly payment is like an ice storm to rush hour traffic, crippling.

*screaming* DO NOT DO IT.

Hi Elena -- Regarding private loans not sure if you can 1) try local credit unions 2) take a cash advance at this late stage but it may be an option for one year. Meaning if you have a credit limit for 5-8K you could take a cash advance at a low interest rate. Obviously there is always a risk for ANY loan you take out.

The top 3 private loans are Wells Fargo, Discover, and Sallie Mae. Typically with these, it is easier to get approved for a loan and to have a smaller interest rate if you have a co-signer such as your parents. However, it is not an absolute necessity. Many of these companies have ‘Health Professions' loans, but unfortunately getting an accelerated second degree nursing is still considered a bachelor of nursing or an undergraduate degree so you may not get this benefit (although I have heard that some people get it).

Other Kinds of Loans

There are other kinds of loans, such as peer-to-peer lending (P2P), but they typically don't allow for student loans (Prosper, the Lending Club) and often have a higher interest rate.

Good luck with this!

does nyu offer any scholarship ?? how much is tuition for accelerated nursing

Hi all!

Is anyone in this forum going for the traditional BSN program? I'm transferring for this spring semester and wanted to talk to some of you! Thanks!!

@nyugirlx19 Heyy Im taking 3 more pre-reqs at nyu in the spring and then in the fall I start the accelerated program. So I guess I'm considered traditional bsn for this semester? Idunos how that works

Thank you for sharing your experience. i will keep on trying and am looking for a cosigner. I know that private loans are not the best, but i have no other choice this semester...

Than you so much for all the info! I am not American, so i can't ask my parents to be cosigners. I do not know much about credit unions, but will check them out.

@kjmm I'm pretty sure I'm in the accelerated program too actually! lol they have me taking my nurses classes starting next school year and i go straight through even through the summer. Idk if that's it or not? Where are you transferring from and what are you doing for housing? I'm staying on campus, I find out my arrangements on Friday and I'm an undergraduate. What prereqs do you have to take? Sorry for all the questions!!!

I graduated from stony brook in May 2015. What school are you coming from? Yeah me too I start the nursing sequence fall 2016 then straight through spring '17-fall '17. What classes are you taking this semester? I'm taking microbiology, nutrition, and lifespan developmental psych. For housing I'm just commuting since I live uptown! That's good you got housing I heard it's quite limited

Anyone still looking for housing? I'm really interested in living in Stuytown since it seems that's where most NYU students live who have moved off campus. Since I live on Long Island, I'm not panicking about finding housing since I can commute, I'd just prefer not to, especially on clinical days when we have to be at our hospitals at 7:30 am
