NYU Spring 2015 ABSN

Published

Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)

My Stats:

Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38

Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA

Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years

Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year

Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit

Hey all! I am thrilled to say Tuesday I was accepted into the accelerated program. I am really exited to meet you all and really nervous! My name is Melissa and I am from Brooklyn. I graduated from John Jay college with a 3.4 in Deviant Behavior and Social Control. I have never worked as an EMT or at a medical office so I am nervous because everyone is going to have a lot more experience than me. But I am confident and excited!

Still waiting.....

Hi! I'm Trisha and I'm with Melissa in the little-to-no-experience boat (: I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a 3.79 in Biomedical Sciences and Spanish. I found out that I got accepted two Thursdays ago and I'm super excited! I was born in NYC to two RN-BSNs so you could say I'm kind of coming full circle.

I have very little clinical experience but I've volunteered and studied abroad - is anybody else thinking of pursuing Global Public Health in addition to Nursing?

Excited to meet all of you!

Has everyone placed their tuition/housing deposit in?

If anyone else has viewed their Bursar Bill, can you help me figure out something?

It shows the estimated cost of attendance for the Spring 2015 semester as being $33,310. Is this the same for all four semesters? That's over $130,000. Am I missing something?

Hey spaceshuttleboy,

I've placed the deposit but only for tuition. I didn't need the housing. As for the bill, I think that $33k is more or less what you would be paying per semester. However, for the summer it might be less because the summer semester is less time. I remember you said you got the nursing scholarship as well so that would take you down to about $115k. Did you also get the option to do work study? Because that's another way to keep down the cost. As for the books, you really don't need to purchase the books for Adult and Elder care, or Patho and Pharm according to a lot of the people I spoke to, so you can cut down the cost of books that way. I know some of the cuts I mentioned seem minute compared to the overall cost but trust me they add up. I think if you cut a lot of corners you won't have to take out that much. If you have any questions just let me know. Hope this helps

Thanks for responding, antigone823. There was the work study option, but I doubt I'd have the time to work during school, with the program being as intense as it is. It still does seem like a fat chunk to throw down, though.

Hey Spaceshuttleboy,

I completely understand what you mean. I think at this point the only thing you can do is think it over carefully before you make a decision. I know that the three week deadline is approaching for people who were in the first round of acceptances so you have a little less than a week to make a decision. Have you heard from any other schools?

I was able to get them to extend the three-week deadline by one week, so I have until next week to decide. I'd like to go, but not at that cost. I suppose everyone else is either fully funded or will be getting a loan for full price?

I should hear from the University of Washington soon, and that's a cheaper program. I think my decision will hang on that.

That's great that you got them to extend the deadline, I think you're right to want to wait it out and see. I'm not fully funded at any cost it's just the housing that's dropping my costs significantly. And honestly, University of Washington is a great school so you're going to be fine. I'm sure you got in there.

That's very kind of you, thanks. That would solve my problems, should it happen.

@antigone823 depends what time the meet and greet is, i'm working an overnight on Tuesday. I didn't hear anything about it.
