Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)
My Stats:
Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38
Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA
Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years
Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year
Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit
I did make a Facebook group called NYU ABSN Spring 2015, let me know if you can't find it in the search.. As for admitted student night, I am pretty sure they have another one tonight at 5:00. I went last Thursday and it was helpful. They briefly touched base on financial aid - get your FAFSA in, and they addressed questions we had. Current ABSN students were there and spoke about their experiences; there definitely is a lot of camaraderie and support at NYU and the students mentioned they are like a nursing family. They mentioned their clinical sites being very rewarding and they've worked with many professional & knowledgeable nurses. One student also spoke about their Master's program, and how you can apply in your 3rd semester. She said almost all NYU BSN students become admitted to their NP Master's programs, which requires 1 year of work in the field before you can begin. They also reminded anyone who paid their deposit to submit immunization forms ASAP (all found online), along with BLSHCP (CPR) certification (they offer 2 classes on-site prior to first day of classes) and their signed technical standard form (also online). They showed us the current SIM lab which was neat; they have tons of SIM dolls and have low, medium and high-fidelity rooms, to truly mimic real-life scenarios (one doll even gives birth). They are moving the current College of Nursing location down to First avenue so in January we will be in brand new classrooms, offices, and SIM labs. They also mentioned that lecture class size starting in January will be max 160 students, SIM lab ratio 8 students: 1 professor, and off-site clinical ratio 6:1 (which I found out you get to list your ideal locations and they assign you as best as they can). Lastly, they said all financial aid packets should be sent out by Dec 1st and that our schedules should be posted on Albert between the 5th-12th of December. Hope this helps, I look forward to meeting everyone in January! - Dana
I graduated from Brooklyn College with a BS in psychology and a gpa of 3.38. I volunteered as an EMT for 4 years holding various leadership roles. I've also worked as an EMT for 2.5 years working in both transport and 911. Ive worked in assisted living for 1.5 years. I taught CPR/First-Aid for AHA certification for 2 years. I currently volunteer in an intermediate care unit in New York Methodist hospital in Brooklyn.
If the15-month Accelerated BSN program costs about $90k, how much more would we need to pay if we later decide to enter the dual degree program for our masters? Does anyone know?

This girl is in the NYU nursing program now. She has about two videos up. She's pretty helpful so far.

Just got my acceptance this morning at 8:30. I already live in Brooklyn, New York thank god so at least I wouldn't need to pay for housing :-)
Did anyone start a fb group yet? And at the Admitted Students Welcome night what did they talk about?
