Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?

Hey, guys! I'm from out of state and I was also emailed by a recruiter regarding the fall 2017 new graduate position I applied to. I graduated this past May 2017 and am already licensed but not in New York yet. She initially told me to save the date for the interview day on October 12th, but then emailed me back saying that she just found out that interview day is full. She still has scheduled a time to talk with me on the phone the following week though.

Does anyone know what this phone call is going to be like? And does anyone know if there will be more interview days throughout October?

Hi all! Has anyone done the "interview day" and can give some insight into how to prepare for it? Thank you!

Hi! Thank you @lbsimeon, BSN, RN for your answer! And my interview day is tomorrow as well, and was also wondering how to prepare (if anyone went last Thursday for perioperative services)? Also, are you guys only bringing your resume? Thanks in advance!

Also, @moomoo-lop, if it is anything like the screening, they will ask about why you picked nursing, your interests, your career goals, and what makes a good nurse. Pretty general stuff!

Thanks so much @animallovr94! Good luck during interviews! Please respond and let me know what the interview process/day is like!

Here's an updated version of the NYU hiring process. all new graduate RNs get started at NYU in the Residency program. The y have a new orientation for the program every single month. I was invited via email for the in-patient services RN interview day- the hiring event consisted of 8-10 specialty units and we got to choose 2 nursing managers to interview with, plus the mandatory interview with HR. The first manager I met with seemed very closed off- asked 4 questions, shut me out, and said thanks -_- . HR lady was incredible, I had a phone interview with her beforehand (august-ish), followed up a bunch with emails, but she was finicky about giving me actually answers for the monthly programs. The second nurse manager I met with was very open, talkative, and I was super confident when talking to her. she didn't ask any questions though, so that was weird. For now, I am waiting about a week to hear anything back. will update when I hear anything.

Wow thanks for the update @FinallyRN29! Do you remember what specialties were available to you guys to choose from and if there were any ICUs? Are you graduating this December or are you already done with nursing school?

When the recruiter emailed me, she told me that the interview day on the 12th was full but she still wanted to do a phone screen with me next week. I'm nervous that all the units will be gone! Do you remember what was asked in the phone interview?

moomoo-lop

I graduated in May, licensed end of July.

there were ICUs available: Neuro, Cardiac, and surgical

there was also pediatrics units - general and PICU since they are opening a new NYU childrens Hospital

there was 1 nurse manager for acute medicine- which is basically medsurg

and 2 units for transplant: one liver, one general transplant

1 unit for hematology/ oncology/ BMT

I don't think I'm forgetting anyone else...

Phone Screening is super simple- I had that in august, I spoke to her for like 15 minutes. I did continue to follow up with emails with her every month though.

Questions she asked included:

why nursing?

Why NYU? what do you know about the residency program?

what unit are you interested in and why?

& difficult patient and how you handled it.

I remember because I write down the questions during the phone interviews so I can be prepared to answer similarly in person.

the person I had the phone screening with was the same lady from HR I spoke to today (coincidence). she remembered me! they are super nice people. you just have to make an impression.

Let us know how the phone screening goes for you! good Luck!

When I asked the NM I interviewed with she said decisions will be made next month. Were you told otherwise?

Ya I was told within 2 weeks by HR at the interview day today. I bet every unit is different though

Hi guys!

I sent my resume, cover letter in and I got an email about two days after asking me to come in early November to "schedule a time to speak bout my experiance, interest and opporunties at NYU."

Does anyone know anything about the ICU residency? And how long orientation is?

Did anyone that attended the periop interview day hear back with a job offer?

@FinallyRN29 thans so much for the advice and help! Let us know if you hear back about a job offer! :) Can you share which two units you picked?

I'll update once I have my phone screen!
