Hello everyone! I made this thread in order to find everyone is also also planning on applying NYU accelerated nursing program. The application for the spring opens on October 1st and I am so excited! :)
Still haven't gotten a decision, I'm really hoping this week! But I feel at this point it's a denial if people are already picking classes and clinical sites, etc. ):
Hi Chelss,
I spoke to admissions today and I think they are wrapping up the review process this week so notifications should be going out this week and next. Wishing you the best!
Congrats hdobb!! Seems like there are quite a few people from CA. I just moved to NY from Ca as well. I live in midtown west. Busy area but convenient spot to access all subway lines. A lot of people here convert living rooms into bedrooms to have roommates and make rent cheaper since it's pretty high here compared to most places.
Hey guys! I'm in the Fall '13 accelerated cohort (just taking finals for my first nursing semester at NYU). Are you planning on living in the dorms or in an apartment? If you're thinking dorms, I'd go with anything around Union Square (most of our classes are at the Cantor Film Center on 8th St) or Second Street Dorm (closest upperclassmen dorm to Washington Square Park). If you're thinking apartments, I'd try to stay relatively close by (i.e. chelsea, LES, flatiron) or if you're going to be out of Manhattan, Brooklyn's a quick subway ride away from NYU (plus, some clinical hospitals contracted with NYU are in Brooklyn like Maimonides and NY Methodist).
Where do you find uniform guidelines for nyu nursing?
For clinicals you will be required to wear nyu nursing scrubs, they are available in the bookstore. They are bright purple. Shoes must be white and non-porous (think of dripping bodily fluids on your shoes..) they can be any brand, as long as they are strictly white (nursing shoe or sneaker, no clogs.) Some clinical instructors allowed students to wear colored running sneakers but mine were very strict with the white.
You can wear long sleeve white shirts under the scrubs if cold. No jackets of any sort.
For 1-2 of the clinicals (community and psych) uniform is business casual
This thread is so informative! Thank you everyone!
I am looking for info anywhere I can get it, so if anyone had any thoughts on these questions I would love any responses!
I'm wondering likely it is I'll be able to get scholarships? And has anyone heard of the hrsa program?
Best places to live for the best price? I'll probably live outside of Manhattan, so I'm alright with a little bit of a commute if necessary
Is it possible to work part time during the program?
Positives/negatives of NYU?
And any input is welcome! I've never been to New York... I'm super nervous about the short amount of time I have to get all this figured out but so excited!!!!

Thank you so much for putting time to explain this! I still wonder if they put those rules in writing somewhere... but it's good to know that we don't have to wear our uniforms from first day if class)

It's definitely in the student handbook, maybe it's too early? If your first day of the semester is a clinical, you do need to wear the uniform. If it's a class day at nyu you can wear whatever you want
