Nyu Accelerated BSN spring 2014

Published

Hello everyone! I made this thread in order to find everyone is also also planning on applying NYU accelerated nursing program. The application for the spring opens on October 1st and I am so excited! :)

Has anyone considered or sent additional information in hopes of boosting their chances? I applied for the priority deadline and haven't heard yet. The representative said it could be another 2-3 weeks and I could probably get another recommendation letter in based on some tutoring and independent study I'm doing this fall. Anyone else?

" NYU ABSN Spring 2014 Entry "

Is the name of the FB group created.

I have done research and find that it makes more sense to find an off-campus housing situation. This would eliminate the process of finding a place to live once the school year is done, and actually can save up to 500$ a month. The average monthly cost for on campus comes out to about 2000$ and renting a room can vary from 1200$-2000$.

We will be in this program for 14 months, so finding a stable environment is key.

Hey, Ramboramirez11!

I could not find a group in FB. Can you please provide a link?

Thanks in advance)

Hi @Ramboramirez11 I can't seem to find the group on facebook titled

:(. Thank you for your research on the housing situation. Personally I do not want to be in an undergraduate dorm, so I asked them if it was possible to be placed in graduate housing and this was their response:

Thank you for contacting our office. For the purposes of housing, those enrolled in the accelerated nursing program are considered incoming undergraduate transfers, and are eligible for undergraduate upperclassman housing. You may submit a request to live in graduate halls, by sending an email with your name and University ID(N#), and indicating your request. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate you in a graduate hall.

You will not be able to apply for Stuy Town through out office.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reply to this message or contact our office at 212-998-4600.

I think that subleasing is probably going to be my best option at this time :woot:. Is everyone planning on living in Manhattan? I've been told that I probably won't want to "cross a bridge", but I've only been to NYC for two days so I really don't know!

Any New Yorkers have any suggestions, just let me know! Thanks guys!

Hey Laura and any future classmates :)

I am not sure about my living situation yet... I have family that lives close in jersey so I may take the bus/train in for the first semester until I get a better feel for the area around school. Otherwise I am researching on campus housing but not dorms- hoping for graduate level apartment style also. So we are not eligible for that??? Which halls are we eligible for?

Also, when you accepted did you just pay the 500 deposit? Thats what I am planning to do but then what if i decide on campus housing?

Anyone know when orientation is?? I heard we get more information in a packet once we accept...

Money wise consider finding a place in Queens or Brooklyn. You'd be surprised how much Rents differ from Manhattan once you cross the river into Brookyln/Queens or ever NJ.

Hi @SEO5 !

I have only paid the $500 deposit. I guess that it might be possible to get housing in Washington Square Village (WSV) which is graduate housing, but not Stuy Town.

Stuy town is apartment style with 2 bedrooms, but only available to phd students or something like that- in the email they sent me they said that ABSN students are being treated as a transfer student and that housing services can't guarantee graduate housing for us- which most likely means if it fills up you will be placed in student housing with sophomores, juniors, or seniors in their general undergraduate programs.

The other thing is the WSV housing is set up as studio apartments in which you share with another student. I personally want my own room so that is why I am going to try and find an apartment close by...hopefully...

I emailed the nursing program and this is what they said to me:

The Spring semester will begin on Monday January 27th. Orientation for your program will take place the week beforehand. You will receive all of the information about orientation by email.

With regards to housing, there are many different dormitory options, most of which are located within walking distance of the campus. Please check out the following website to see more details about all of NYU's residence halls:

http://www.nyu.edu/life/living-at-nyu/on-campus-living/explore-the-residencehalls.html

You will likely be treated as a transfer student and not as a freshman by the Office of Housing Services. You may contact them at [email protected] if you would like more details about the policies and options.

Hope that this help!

Got accepted to NYU's ABSN program... was also accepted to MGHIHP ABSN program..... which do you think is better? I would love any feedback... it's so hard to find good, valuable information about either program online!

Thanks!!!

Specializes in Pediatrics, Oncology.

I'd also like to know thoughts/reviews on NYU vs. MGHIHP because I applied to both.

Also anyone else planning to go on to become an NP?

Did NYU put up the financial aid package for anyone yet? Btw, I can't find the facebook group either.

Hi guys!!!! I got my acceptance letter this morning at 9:27 am Denver time!!!

I cannot be so excited about it. This was my second time applying and I got in and heard back in such a short time!!!! I still cannot be believe it!!! I don't have super stellar GPA, but everything is in an average range. Have some volunteer experiences, speaking three languages, and that's all.

Congratulation to others who got in!!! I cannot wait to see you guys!!!

For others hang in there!!!!! Wish you good luck!!!

Hi all,

I just got my acceptance letter today 11:27AM Eastern time! I'm soo excited to meet you all. I live in Manhattan so I'll be commuting. I would love to get in touch with anyone in the city as well! I'll definitely try to find the FB group as well :)

My stats in case :

3.8 GPA overall, BS in Psych.

After graduation, I worked in the legal field.

I did not have any recent health experiences although I did spend a lot of time in hospital and clinic settings before graduating college.

I submitted by application on 10/14 so I missed the priority deadline due to my letter of recs getting lost in the mail twice.... |

I'm just so happy and no words can express how thankful I'm to NYU for truly recognizing and giving people like us a second chance even if we do not come from health backgrounds.

Good luck to everyone else! I look forward meeting all the future NYU-ers! :)
