Hello everyone! I made this thread in order to find everyone is also also planning on applying NYU accelerated nursing program. The application for the spring opens on October 1st and I am so excited! :)

I got my acceptance at 11:27am today! I live in NYC! It still feels so unreal! Good luck to those that are still waiting!

Hi Meisauce!!

Congrats to you!! I got the email within the same time frame as you!! I live in Manhattan. Where in the city are you from? :)

Hello fellow future nurses,

I want to congratulate everyone on receiving his or her acceptance to NYUCN for Spring 2014. All of you remind me of myself exactly 2 years ago. I graduated from NYU College of Nursing in May 2013 and obtained my license a month later. I was one of the first students to pass the NCLEX in my graduating cohort, I graduated at the very top of my class with Latin honors and I am very close to all of the professors at NYU. I want to mention that NYU is a fine school, the professors are amazing and it will prepare you to become a knowledgeable professional nurse, that's if you devote yourself to the program entirely! And I cannot stress that enough. Your lives will change, either you will fail or thrive... it all depends on how well you can acclimate yourself to the rigorous environment. The nursing program became a lot harder because the NCSBN has raised the passing score for the NCLEX in order to combat the surplus of NEW GRADUATE nurses on the market... there is still a shortage of EXPERIENCED nurses on the market and nurses that are supposed to retire are not retiring because of the economic recession and people still have to eat after they turn 65. Hospitals would rather operate short-staffed than spend the money to train new nurses, no matter which nursing school you came from, also because of the economic recession. This will not change anytime soon. Make sure that you understand that little detail when faculty or administration tells you that there is a nursing shortage at orientation. My graduating class has had more students who failed the NCLEX than any other graduating class in the history of NYU College of Nursing. It's not because the program is bad, it's because students were under the impression that they were going to have a social life in nursing school and pass effortlessly. If you are attending NYU because you want to party in the big city, you have a big surprise waiting for you. The third week into your first semester, you will have three midterms in addition to countless other assignments and clinicals (pre-sims, care plans, studying, reading). I am not trying to scare anyone, I am telling the truth. There will be no parties, just a lot of coffee and crying. If you stick with it, you will realize that it was all worth it in the end. Now, once you graduate nursing school and obtain your license, you are going to enter one of the most FLOODED job markets in the tri-state area and every other major city. If you don't have any strong connections in the hospitals that you are applying to, your chances of finding a HOSPITAL job are extremely bleak (microscopic). Other areas of nursing jobs (homecare, VNS, nursing homes) are not that bad, but still pretty hard to find a job (If you are content working in those nursing fields). And the myth that men (as opposed to women) will find a job in 2 second is b/s, maybe that was the case 10 years ago.. now we're all in the same boat. It has been 5 months since I obtained my license and I still cannot find a job in a hospital. I was lucky to have one interview and I felt that it was more of a formality than an honest interview. I'm not trying to discourage anyone out of going into nursing, but these are the facts. I wish that someone had told me this when I was applying, so that I could've made an informed decision. My deferment period for my loans ends this month and I am facing a reality that I may default on my $80,000 loan from NYU and say goodbye to my excellent credit history. NYU was great and I loved everything about it, but the job market is truly demoralizing. I really love being a nurse, but the economy is beyond horrible. I wish you all here good luck and I hope that everything works out for everyone.

Simplybliss, I'm from Brooklyn!

Advice to those who are looking for housing: the commute from brooklyn or queens is not too far (everyone in NY is used to commuting) and is definitely worth it. The rent in Manhattan is insane.

Vicky.york, I found the group. I just requested to join :)

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone else has been accepted into the Spring 2014 cohort? I have a lot of questions that I want to discuss with someone, like where are you planning on living? I'm trying to decide if I should do on campus housing or not...I just have a feeling that these 2 months are going to fly by! I'm in Los Angeles so this is going to be a big move for me, if anyone wants to chat just let me know! Thanks!

Laura

Hi Laura

I am new to the blogging thing and just added you as a friend not sure if you got that or not. Anyways I was accepted to NYU Spring 2014 cohort and am from Orange County and am stressed about the living situation. I do not want to live in a dorm and want my own room as well and i think the best way to ensure that is to rent an apartment off campus.

In response to BrokeNurseNYU, I think this might be the case in New York, but the west coast is thriving and the demand for RN's are like no other. If your having a hard time in NY, maybe you should relocate and find a gig elsewhere.

Also I've been told that the lower east side LES, is very nice place to live. Same with East Village. I am thinking of finding a place in Brooklyn and doing the easy commute, I was told to try to find a place by the L train.

I am also looking in other areas that are closer to campus. I am going to be very busy and won't have time for a social life.

I haven't received my admission decision yet, but I have been looking into the housing situation in the meantime(because I too will be making a big move from California and I am hopeful:yeah:). I am really impressed by some of the places that I have found in Brooklyn that are pretty affordable. I would love to live in walking distance to NYU, but it seems like that would just end up costing me a fortune and I am going to be living off of purely loans and whatever is in my bank account at the moment.

Anyone planning on having a car with them? I can't decide(in the event that I actually get in) what I want to do with mine. Maybe the New Yorkers on here can give me some insight?

Do you mind what other school you decided on? because I'm in the same situation as you. Can't really decide...

Hey @cookiedotes,

I decided that I am going to Rutgers University. I personally learn better in smaller programs, so I know that NYU won't be the best place for me.

Did you decide?
