Hello everyone! I made this thread in order to find everyone is also also planning on applying NYU accelerated nursing program. The application for the spring opens on October 1st and I am so excited! :)
Hey Lauren, I am from Orange County and also got accepted to Spring 2014... freaking out about moving and living, etc. Have you been doing any research on housing?? I have a friend who lives in Hoboken with her boyfriend and she loves it.. says its only 15 min into the city. It seems cheaper there- was finding like 3 bedroom apartments for ~3,000 which isn't bad.

@bcbischo - those are my thoughts exactly. i hope we get something soon--the wait is making me anxious. did you try contacting admissions for an update?@dath3 - i checked my email numerous times on tuesday/thursday to no avail. best of luck to you!
no, i haven't tried contacting them. i am starting to feel like i should though. i am so anxious about getting in!! this is the only school i have applied to so far and i haven't wanted something this bad in a really long time. i just feel like the application and the essay(with its mere 500 words) just wasn't enough to really explain who i am, the type of student i am, or the potential i have for the program. i wish that there was an interview component to the application process! i would gladly fly out there for one!
anyone go to the open house or has talked to an admissions officer about how many people actually apply and how many get in?
@wlrgny- Thank you and good luck to you as well! I only applied to one other school for next semester, but I'm hoping for NYU. My finger r crossed!
@bcbischo- I didn't go to the open house although I wanted to, but was unable to attend. I've heard that NYU does have pretty high acceptance rates compared to other schools. I'm sincerely hoping we find out before Decmeber and I'm thinking if I dont hear from them by then I guess at that point I will call. But omg this wait it tough. I really don't know what to think, but I'm hoping for the best. Good luck to you as well !

i really hope we dont have to wait until december! that gives us like no time to make arrangements to move to NYC(and find warm clothing haha). well i guess we just have to try and keep our sanity for now lol. thanks! good luck to you too!!
to the new yorkers on here, is this too good to be true? 4BR apartments on 14th to 40th and union sq for $3500, utilities included? i kinda feel like it is a scam of some sort. if not, i wanna live here!! lol http://www.renthop.com/listings/14st_union_sq_up_to_1200sqft/12d/2403723
Hi Bcbischo,
I lived in manhattan all my life, more specifically from the Lower East Side. The link to that apt at Union Square sounds almost too good to be true to me. I've heard of studios and two bedroom apts for $2,500- $4,000. A four bedroom apt at that rate is pretty shocking. I cannot say for sure if it's real. But I would definitely do more research. Rent rates have skyrocketed. The only reason why I was able to live in manhattan and on the lower east side is not because I have the money but because I live in public housing thanks to the government (a little glimpse into my background).
BTW I was walking around NYU campuses with my mother today showing her where the college of nursing is. It looks like many people who got accepted are starting to gather for little tours! I'm so excited to start!
Don't lose hope guys! I was out of school for almost 3 years, no true recent health experience, only ONE recommendation letter, but poured my heart and soul into my personal statement. Everyone here has great credentials! I only wish you all the best and I hope to meet you guys in January!
PS: if anyone from other states need help settling in or have any questions about the area, feel free to ask! :)

I called them twice a week, it didn't help... all they say it's under review, I am already signing lease to move for other school & NYU still taking forever.. They shd def fix their customer service & decision time, not fair for spring cohort! To find out right before the classes, are they insane?
Regarding stats, at the open house last Fall they said they admit about 35% of applicants. My advice to those still waiting is to send them any mid-semester grades you may have for courses you are taking. Maybe a screen shot or letter from your prpfessor. And make sure you get to the right person. You don't just want it scanned into your file. Instead, you want a name and email. You really have to work the admissions counselor to get this but I will tell you that I did this and had my "yes" email the following day. It seemed to work with others as well (sadly, not all yes's but they got their answer). I can't remember the name of the person I emailed but there were a few names listed in the Fall 2013 thread. It may not still be the right person but worth a try. I don't think be politely persistent is an issue. The school likes to know how bad you want it.
Oh, and for those of you from So. Cal - you will be fine with the weather. I moved from OC in 1999 and love living on the East Coast. Warm, good socks and a good hat and coat go along way. But seriously, go to Costco and buy several packs of Wigwam socks. They are amazing and warm feet are super important.
@Simplybliss: yeah i thought that might be pretty low, especially for the way that the apartment looked. thanks for the help and congrats on your admission into the program! i do have one question: so i realize there are some pretty cheap places to live around manhattan(or at least cheaper). which ones would you NOT live in? im thinking in terms of cleanliness, crime, convenience, and things of that sort.
@BrooklynJulie: we can send our mid-semester grades?! how did you go about doing this? and who did you talk to at NYU? the fact that they dont have my current grades was actually really bothering me because i am doing so well in them and i am taking 4 of the required pre-reqs right now! the only grade that i have that i could take a screenshot of is my chemistry lab class. the rest i would have to get from my professors and fax over or something.
oh and im not too worried about the cold. i LOVE the snow and the cold, but i have never lived in the snow and am more afraid of falling haha. i went to upstate new york to visit some friends last winter and i had to hold on to both of them the whole time or else i am sure i would have broken something lol my real main purchase if i move to NYC is some non-slip boots :)
@realdream really, congrats on the acceptance from your other school. Yea I haven't called yet sucks we have to wait this long but at least it isn't a flat out NO lol. I think I'll be sending them my mid semster grades for the two pre reqs I have in progress. I can't wait to find out ! =)
