NYU ABSN Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello everyone!

My name is Kaitlyn and I was recently accepted into NYU Meyers as a Second Degree (non-accelerated) student. I'll be finishing up my prerequisite courses at NYU this Fall 2019 and will then begin the ABSN curriculum with, hopefully, some of you all in the Spring 2020 cohort!

Just wanted to start a thread for everyone to communicate on as you all work on getting your applications in ?

Best of luck to you all!

Hey @JazziBelle !
I am applying as a transfer student on the common app but I can't find where you select Rory Meyers Second Degree under program materials? Can you please help me?

I'm pretty sure its in the first part of the application where it asks what you're applying for then it'll lead you to the supplemental parts

Did you guys upload each experience and achievement or left those two blank and uploaded your resume?

I just did my resume

Do any of you know if LORs have to be submitted before the Sept. 15th deadline for our app to be considered priority registration?

Can y'all rate my essay? I know the ending needs a little tweaking but any feedback is welcome!

Attempting to unsuccessfully resuscitate my Grandfather via CPR had awakened me to the inevitability we all must eventually face: death. Performing compressions at 100 bpm on his no longer breathing body, I came to grips with the fragility and ephemerality of human life; a human is born into this world 9 months after conception, but it only takes a moment for it all to end. This is a fact most healthcare professionals are more than familiar with, as it is an almost daily occurrence within a hospital. Despite what seems like fighting a losing battle, my family and friends that are currently in healthcare continue to press on tirelessly, exhausting every possible avenue in an attempt to preserve that which is most precious: life. It is their zeal and perseverance in the face of both emotional and physical turmoil that had inspired me to join them in this death defying enterprise.

The mission trips I had gone on to Kenya and Kyrgyzstan, offering humanitarian aid, had stirred in me an insatiable desire to expunge myself of any and all physical/emotional/financial resources for the benefit of those around me. It mattered not how arduous it was to erect a water tank in the scorching heat of Kenyan summer or how far we had to walk on a daily basis to teach orphans in Kyrgyzstan, the assurance that those kids had clean water and an education was more than enough to offset the cost. In retrospect, walking 10 miles a day or receiving countless blisters from physical labor seems like such a small price to pay for the futures of those children. I count it all joy to see my blood, sweat, and tears go towards the amelioration of others. Nursing encapsulates those desires much more so than my current position in finance by providing a direct line of access to those that are suffering the most, allowing me to labor physically and emotionally for their benefit. My hope is that I can one day return to the mission field to serve in an even greater capacity by attending to those without access to adequate healthcare.

Having graduated from NYU once before with a Bachelor’s in Economics, I am eager to return to the school that has sufficiently prepared me for a career in Finance. It is for that reason I am confident that returning to my alma mater will equip me to excel in a career in nursing.

I hope I am not too late...if you don't see "Meyers College of Nursing 2nd Bachelor's Degree" under "Program Materials" go to the tab that says "Add Program" scroll all the way down through the list of schools and their programs to New York University, you should see the options there.

Hi Everyone!

I am also applying for Spring 2020 and had a quick question. Is anyone submitting an addendum to their application explaining bad grades from undergrad? While my undergrad GPA is low, my prerequisite GPA is high. I'm not sure if I should bring attention to my low undergrad GPA or just let my personal statement and letter of recs boost my application. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance for the help!! Good luck to you all!

I didn't have to submit one but, I would say YES! However, try to avoid writing a "GPA addendum" that seeks to achieve some form of sympathy. Rather, talk about the circumstances that affected your grades and provide detailed explanations. You can highlight your trends such as your prereq GPA and your Major GPAvs Overall GPA.

If that helps.

@JazziBelle thank you very much for the reply! Very helpful!

Hey guys

Am applying this spring second attempt, keeping my fingers crossed

Just got my NYU Albert login info today! Excited to finally have an applicant portal to constantly check for NYU
