NYU ABSN Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I was recently admitted into the NYU Second Bachelor's in Nursing Program, but since I have not finished all the pre-requisites thus applied as a non-accelerated student, I won't start the curriculum until Spring 2019, so I've decided to start a thread for that cohort.

I also made an (early) Facebook group: Log into Facebook | Facebook

Juuuust in case guys: I submit my personal essay at: Program Materials--> Questions --> For the question: "Which events led you to choose nursing as a career at this stage of your life?"

It's cause the box is kinda discreet. I thought there would have it's own tab. Thanks!!

They must have JUST expanded to 2500 characters .... the box instructions changed ya'll! I'm not so happy about that - considering I have submitted already ...

Hi everyone!

I'm also an applicant for the 2019 Spring cohort. After reading previous posts I am confused whether we send our transcripts to the common app (which I've already done) or to NYU directly, some clarification would be greatly appreciated. Additionally for the LOR, those are only needing to be uploaded through the common app, right?

Some stats about myself (I find it helpful)

Undergrad GPA: 3.71

Prerequisite GPA: ~ 3.8

*currently taking both Anatomy and Physiology, hopefully that won't impact me negatively*

Two years of 911 experience as an EMT. And undergraduate experience in a research lab for cognitive science. I have two LOR, one coming from a PhD student I worked for in the lab and the other coming from a paramedic supervisor at work.

Wish you all the best of luck!

Hello and welcome! Sounds like you have a great application!

It sounds like NYU is going through growing pains this year as they adopt the common app. We may have all received slightly different information. When I called they told me to directly submit my LOR and transcripts to undergraduate admissions; however, they did say the LOR could be submitted through the Common App. I submitted mine to undergrad.

I don't know what other people did, but hopefully next application cycle is smoother / more clear!

Good luck!

Hi!

For those of you that submitted your applications..did you leave the "Recommendations" and "Prerequisities" portion empty in the program materials section? Since we send our letters and transcripts to the University instead of CommonApp

I left them blank. They told me to. Then they told me to call back in first week of September (or second week) to make sure everything was received.

Hello!

From what I've gathered from a phone call to the office, they said to fill out the prereqs even if we have transcripts coming in. Hope that helps!

Sounds good, thank you guys!

Hey everyone, I'm applying for a spot in the Spring 2019 program. I'm almost done with my application, just waiting for my two recommendations and transcripts to go through.

Some info about me. I started with a degree in Textiles and now I'm moving into nursing. I've always wanted to do nursing but felt torn between what my family history has been (I'm native south american/quechua, fabric studies is common.) and what I wished to do. I finally felt confident enough to pursue the medical field about a year ago and have been working as a medical assistant for Planned Parenthood.

Undergrad GPA : 3.66

Pre-Req GPA : 3.26

I got a C- my first try in AP1 so I'm taking it again. Other than that the only thing I have left is Microbio. A little nervous about my mixed grades of A's/B's and lack of a background in the field. But crossing my fingers, as I'm doing for everyone else! Good luck guys!

I'm a little confused with the recommendation letters. On the common app it says 1 personal, 1 professional and 2 academic. This lead me to believe that 4 recs are required but then it says 0 required? I have 2 recs both from my job, but I was thinking of submitting one os a personal. Anyone else confused by all of this?

The NYU website says "1 - 2 professional or academic letters of recommendation are recommended, but not required. Your letter of recommendation should comment on your maturity, intellectual potential, and motivation to pursue a career in nursing. Special letter of recommendation forms are not required." So I would just go with what the website says.

I was wondering: does anyone know if having a BLS certification will increase the chances of getting accepted? I know it's a far fetch question haha
