NYU ABSN Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I was recently admitted into the NYU Second Bachelor's in Nursing Program, but since I have not finished all the pre-requisites thus applied as a non-accelerated student, I won't start the curriculum until Spring 2019, so I've decided to start a thread for that cohort.

I also made an (early) Facebook group: Log into Facebook | Facebook

I see, I got an email saying my chemistry class is a problem. I took both chem 1 and 2 in 2008 and they told me I can either find another course that finishes before jan.24, or switch to non-accelerated. I have emailed them and haven't heard back. Its because I have taken graduate school courses (pharmacology-3 grad level classes, MPH classes, pathology, neuro, etc.). I was hoping to petition them in this regard bec it is going to expire upon matriculating. I didn't apply to any other programs and I want to attend NYU more than anything. After all I am paying almost $4k for lifespan psych. If you or anyone else has advice in this regard please do help me.

Ah, yes. It looks like you are just missing the cut off date and I'm sorry to hear that, that is frustrating. So, the thing about nursing pre-reqs is that they tend to want exactly what they say they want - graduate courses almost never suffice. It is unlikely they will take any of your Master's courses in place of undergrad chemistry; that is because, for the most part that curriculum is deeply standardized.

You can make this happen by Jan 24. There are programs out there that allow for rolling enrollment and self study. Chemistry is tricky, I am not sure if many programs offer a full chem course online. I used Rochester, for example, and you can enroll in courses now BUT the only course they don't offer is chemistry (Online Prerequisite Courses | University of Rochester School of Nursing). Every online pre-req course that I know of either doesn't have Chemistry (the lab makes it difficult), or is closed to registration for fall. I would recommend trying to find a school that has a winter term and offers chemistry - your local community college may be the right way to go. I will look around as well, but all the ones I am familiar with are closed to registrants. Someone here on this board may know of other schools/programs.

Anyway, I was worried about my pre-requisites as well. My plan was to take the non-accelerated should it have been necessary. If this is your ultimate goal, might it be worth it to do non-accelerated and begin in the Fall? You will still be at NYU working towards your goal and can use that time to get to know the school, area, students, etc.,

Edit: Oregon State has an online chemistry course during winter term, you need to find something like this: Online Chemistry & Lab Courses – Online & Distance Degrees | Oregon State Ecampus | OSU Degrees Online

@alyssanapps if you dont mind me asking what additional info did they need from you. I didn't receive an email. My anxiety is building up, I really hope we hear back this week! Please keep me updated! Good luck to you too!

@biocascio they emailed asking for a transcript from a college which I didn't attend (I took english 1/2 and psych 1 & child psych in high school, and received college credits from them) but it's just listed in my high school transcript. Normally when I apply for schools I include my HS transcript, but they waived it in this application which is why I think they had this issue. The thing is I didn't need any of those 4 classes for this program so I wasn't sure if this was good or bad that they were asking haha

@alyssanapps oh gotcha I could understand where they would be confused, at least you got that cleared up! I just got off the phone with a NYU admissions rep and they keep saying mid December everyone will find out but from this forum it seems like a lot of people have already found out if they have been accepted. I feel like everything is so unorganized. Did you just graduate from undergrad as well?

For people who got accepted please post your stats with pre reqs it would be extremely helpful!

@biocascio no I'm a little all over the place, my original degree is a BA in Textiles with an Art History minor which I got a few years ago. I worked in the field and was unhappy (my whole family is in the art field so thats what pushed me to it originally.) I studied and got my MA license to get into the medical field and currently work for Planned Parenthood as an MA for the last year. I graduated high school after just turning 17 so a bit early. Which is why I have more of an extensive history than the norm is my guess. I have 2 associates degrees already and a bachelors.

Does anyone know if it's possible to defer my admission to the next semester? :(

You can only defer to a 'like' semester; spring to spring, fall to fall. You can defer to Spring 2020 but not Fall 2019.

Edit: FYI, I'm searching for where I saw that, but am coming up with nothing; this is what the acceptance letter says, "Your application was considered for any and all NYU programs and campuses for which you requested consideration, and your admission is only valid for the upcoming semester."

Anyone get a decision today?

My checklist is gone. Gahhh! Going to be a looong day

Thats exciting!! Keep me posted! When did you apply?
