NYU ABSN Fall 2018

Published

Hello all,

I decided to start a thread for the NYU accelerated nursing program since I have not seen one for fall 2018:)

Hey all! I applied for the Fall 2018 as a non-accelerated student. I actually went to NYU for undergrad (psychology, almost 10 years ago). My grades by no means make me a shoo-in but I figure I just have to wait and see since I have not finished most of the pre-req's (but do have some other science classes where I did pretty well, and recent CNA and patient care technician training), think I did a solid job conveying my interest, motivation, and compatibility in the essay, and overall feel like crunching my numbers will be a fairly subjective thing for them.

I hope to ultimately do the BS/MS program through NYU to become a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. I have a good feeling that this would be an ideal fit for me at this time in my life, all things considered, though it certainly is a big commitment as far as cost. The big thing for me is just hearing back soon so I'll be able to start planning for how I will proceed or looking into alternatives. I got my application in by the "priority" deadline March 1st but not sure just how much that will help speed things along.

Good luck!

Hey guys! Having a bit of a dilemma. I've been accepted into the program and am currently taking nutrition, lifespan and patho. by a terrible turn of events i missed my patho final and received an F. do you think it will cause my admissions to be retracted even though it technically isn't needed for the school since we take it the first semester.

thank you in advance!!

why would you think they wil retract if its not required as a pre-req??

Hi All,

I applied Spring 2018 as a non-acceleratated student (I have to take Chemistry over because I did it online). I was accepted and just went to orientation last week. For those worried about acceptance rates there is hope with NYU. I applied to about 6 schools and got denied from 2 so far. The others I haven't heard back from, but it doesn't matter because NYU has a more reputable program. My undergrad GPA was a 2.91, but I had high prerequisite grades (mostly A's and B's), a lot of volunteer experience and a thorough resume. NYU is one of the only schools that do a holistic review of your application, where they look at your resume, letters of rec, essay and then last your grades. It gives everyone a fair chance. Aparently, it is still competitive as I've heard those with high GPA didn't get in. I will be starting the nursing sequence in the fall hopefully with some of you. I just thought I'd share my stats with you all, just in case anyone is still worried about GPA and pre-req grades. My only advice is to make sure you have great prerequisite grades if your GPA is below 3.0. Also, as far as finances, NYU offers some scholarships. I even received one!

thank u so much for this!! God bless on your future endeavors!

Hello @jazzytee ! Do you happen to know how competitive it is to get into non-accelerated program?

I actually just applied today and had few questions if you can possibly answer some of the questions for me!

When do we hear back on whether we got in?

Specializes in Perinatal.

It says on Albert that April 1st or mid April, depending on your entrance position (transfer student, etc), so I think for this program, it's mid April.

I'm also curious about the non-accelerated program specifically.

I have to take four pre-reqs (Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Microbiology, Nutrition). I know those are important pre-reqs, but I am hoping the fact that I already live in NYC and my willingness to take (read: pay to take) them at NYU through the non-accelerated track (at the undergrad main campus) might not necessarily be a drawback with my application.

I emailed them yesterday asking if I were accepted, would I be able to start the pre-reqs this summer even (b/c I would need 2 semesters to finish them since Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II are to be taken in sequence, and since the nursing curriculum only can be started Fall/Spring, this would allow me to start Spring 2019, whereas if I started Human Anatomy & Physiology I in the Fall, I wouldn't be able to immediately start the nursing curriculum Summer 2019 after taking Human Anatomy & Physiology II that Spring). Hope to hear back on that question this week, though I suppose it doesn't matter until I hear back on my application decision.

I'm pretty specifically interested in this NYU program since I moved back to NYC last year, so I would like to stay in the area for this particular program, but if not I would consider moving (perhaps back to California where I lived before) and probably just finish all the pre-reqs, then reassess what I should do for nursing school (including looking closely at public schools).

Honestly, I don't think I would want to pay private school tuition if not with this program at NYU.

I expressed in my essay my specific interest in following up the 2nd BS NYU program with the BS/MS program also at NYU as I am 99% certain I want to become a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. I'm hoping having that intention will also work in my favor with the admission decision.

Essentially me living in NYC for the next 4-5 years (2nd BS, MS program, and the required year of working in the field in between) might hinge on my admissions decision with this program. Thus, I just hope to hear back soon so I can proceed with planning all this. I think I was told over the phone decisions start April 1st but sounds like maybe mid-April instead. And I think I read elsewhere there's sort of an ambiguous rolling decision process, so not all at once. Not quite sure how much (or exactly how) having applied by the March 1 priority deadline speeds things up if at all.

We shall see!

No there is no update yet :(

Are you guys applying as accelerated or non-accelerated?

Hello Everyone!

I have also applied to the NYU Fall 2018 nursing program and though I'd join in. In 2 months from now I will have completed all the pre-reqs so I'm applying for the accelerated program. Being that NYU is super popular and has a good rep I was doubtful about getting in because of my GPA but after reading and seeing that they give all people an equal chance and not everyone has to have a perfect GPA to get in makes me feel a little better. Still waiting to hear back like the rest of you. I have about a 3.4 GPA mostly B+ 's but some A's. I am a Biology major with a Psychology minor. I have some volunteer experience in hospitals and nursing homes.

Good Luck to everyone!!

Sure no problem.....DM me
