Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone was applying to NYU for the ABSN program in fall 2017? I'm kind of nervous because my GPA isn't the highest since I had to work all four years to help pay for school which took away from my studying time. I do have work experience in the health care field and a little over 100 hours of health related volunteering. Also, how is everyone planning on paying for school since it is soo expensive?
This is what I've gathered from last year's thread:
1. Check Albert for any missing pieces of your app. Call admissions to confirm.
2. The first set of decisions were released on April 7 (their deadlines were the same as ours).
3. Not all decisions are sent out at once. It seems like they were sent out in small batches once a week from the initial release up until June. So you could be waiting to hear back for a while. Not hearing from them doesn't mean you've been rejected, so don't lose hope.
4. Some applicants who applied by priority Heard back after some who applied regular.
5. Calling the admissions office for an update on when they will be released doesn't get you anywhere.
6. I think there's only one person reading through the applicactions.
7. You'll get your decision in an email.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
I think the first round of decisions will be this Friday. Don't stress if you don't hear back... even if you applied priority. I think it's good to keep in mind that NYU's slow release is reflective of their effort to look at applicants holistically.
Thank you to everyone who commented the encouragement to apply, I appreciate it. Was lucky to submit one letter of recommendation as well. I think this whole process can really drive a person mad, so once I'm sure they have all of my documents I am going to try and limit my Albert checking to once a week lol
blackberrymousee, shamadi-
I too was going to apply to PACE. Didn't have all my pre-reqs complete before the deadline for Fall 2017 and was more interested in the Pleasantville campus so would be going for the Spring 2018. They had an info session this past week and I asked a friend who goes to PACE to attend and give me info/feedback. Yes it is much less expensive, especially since I could definitely live at home and save on housing costs, and it is supposedly ranked as a top nursing school but I agree with you blackberrymousse, I have also heard some iffy comments about their ABSN program. The feedback from the info session also was a little less than glowing - seemed as if they are a little less organized and a lot of discrepancies in the answers to questions. That said, it seems that the admissions guy that was also in attendance gave an impression of real strictness on their requirements and stressed how selective the program is. Impression was that they are very independent so they must be doing something right.
For me it's all a moot point because for the Spring 2018 program decisions would not come until after other programs already begin so would be risky to turn down acceptances without an assurance of getting into PACE.
Seems things are quickly winding down....hopefully we hear from NYU soon as I have narrowed down my choices between that and one other program.
Fingers crossed!
RyanK94 thanks for that info!
I am going to call the school again maybe today or today..give them some time to sort out mails. I was told they still haven't received one of my transcripts that I requested to be sent twice and my 2nd LOR when I called last week.
Lady on the phone said decisions will be made all throughout April and May so I wouldn't get too anxious if we don't hear back this week.
NikNikV, my application on Pace still says in review but my understanding was that they were already sending out interview requests and I haven't heard anything so I just gave up on hope of getting into Pace. Now just waiting for NYU!
Hi all-
Wanted to pass along information that I received when speaking with the admissions department today. Totally aware of the ract that each time someone speaks with a person at admissions they get different information so take this with a grain of salt.
As far as seeing any updates in Albert: Nothing will show up until a decision is made. At that point, there will be a link that states Application Decision.
Decisions will go out via email between mid-April through late May. You will receive an email that states you have important information and then you check your Albert portal for that information and to access the link mentioned above.
Deadlines were March 1 for priority and April 1 for regular but he mentioned that many times those that were in for priority still are not the first to get emails (not sure I understand that logic but that's what he said). So even though my application was in and complete by August last year, I could be notified in May rather than mid-April - frustrating.
The gentleman I spoke with was more than accommodating and mentioned that if you approach a deadline for commitment on another program and are really pressed for information you can call and ask to speak with an Admissions Counselor (someone who is a higher level I guess than who I was speaking with) and they can discuss timing and give you advice on how to proceed - probably not something to take advantage of but good to know in a pinch.
Anyway, sounds like there is still quite a bit of waiting to do. Again, if any of this information is contrary to what you have been told, I apologize and would love to hear what other know and when people start hearing.

Guys, by any chance, does anyone know if you need a lot of healthcare experience to get into the program or no?
