Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone was applying to NYU for the ABSN program in fall 2017? I'm kind of nervous because my GPA isn't the highest since I had to work all four years to help pay for school which took away from my studying time. I do have work experience in the health care field and a little over 100 hours of health related volunteering. Also, how is everyone planning on paying for school since it is soo expensive?
So I called FAFSA to ask about this. The person I spoke to told me to select 4th year since we will be there for more than one year. When applying for aid next year (Fall 2018) we would select 5th year. He said that it's not a big deal whether you put 4th or 5th year this year; it won't inhibit you from getting financial aid next year. He sait that it's just more accurate to put 4th year this year. Make sure that you select "Second Bachelors" for the next question. They people that work FAFSA are actually super knowledgable about the application. If you have any uncertainties or issues I think the best thing to do is call them. They're also usually pretty friendly. Very different experience from calling Verizon or whatever hahaha. This is their number. (1-800-433-3243)
Thanks so much, RyanK94, this is incredibly helpful! I am clueless about the FAFSA because I didn't take out loans in undergrad. Sorry if I missed it, but have you heard back yet? If not, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and everyone else still waiting that there will be good news either tomorrow or Monday! :)
Blackberrymousse, I got in! Thanks for asking. Yeah, hoping everyone else here gets their decision soon!
Jazminjfuertes, doesn't hurt to submit the Fafsa application. If you're accepted, you'll have your fin aid packet sooner. I submitted mine today and I might have to wait a week to get my packet. Home - FAFSA on the Web - Federal Student Aid
Good luck!

Congrats RyanK94, glad to hear it!
Did anyone put your parents' financial information on your FAFSA? I was deemed an independent student but it said on the FAFSA that if you're going for a law or health professional program (and it specifically mentioned med school and nursing school) you might want to put in your parents info anyway. I don't know if I should...my parents are not well off but I don't know if it would help to put their info in since I'm not financially dependent on them.
@js03, I was planning on going to the May 10th one and then I found out I got scheduled to present my final project for one of my classes on that day so I can't go. I wish they had a date after the spring semester is over for those of us still doing pre-reqs. :/

I called and asked them about this as well. They person I spoke to suggested anyone applying to med or nursing school should include my parent's info. He said that 'it'll help the school figure out if your parents can help with paying your tuition'. From that I assume that if your parents make bank, it wouldn't be helpful and if your parents don't, it could be of benefit. You might be offered more loans, scholarship, etc. I would call and tell them your situation. See what they say. Hope you figure it out!
