NYU ABSN Fall 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone was applying to NYU for the ABSN program in fall 2017? I'm kind of nervous because my GPA isn't the highest since I had to work all four years to help pay for school which took away from my studying time. I do have work experience in the health care field and a little over 100 hours of health related volunteering. Also, how is everyone planning on paying for school since it is soo expensive?

Is anyone going to make the facebook page, or should I? lol

Please do!

I called today as well (I think everyone and their mom must have because the hold time was quite long haha) and everyone I talked to was kind and helpful to the best of their knowledge. For those of you who have not yet received a decision, unless an admission counselor has actually told you your file has been marked complete or you receive an email saying your file is considered complete, you might want to call and double check that they have everything they need (Albert is not always an accurate reflection or updated quickly) and that your file is marked complete so it can be reviewed.

As for when we will actually get a decision, yes it seems random regardless of whether you applied by the priority deadline or not.

tea.ns, when you talked to them today did they say whether or not they could flag your application to expedite it since you may have to pay for summer classes at a different school if you do not get a decision from NYU soon?

Applicants never receive a notification/email from the admission office informing whether their application/file is considered complete. The only time they do reach out to you, is when you are missing some components, or your decision has been made.

Hi itztobs, that's what I thought too! But another poster said earlier in this thread that she did receive an email telling her that her file was considered complete so I thought that was a possibility. Seems like there isn't necessarily consistency because some people received emails notifying them of acceptance and others didn't and found out they were accepted by checking their Albert account.

Frankly, I'm preparing myself for all possibilities!

@blackberrymousse unfortunately no they didn't care and I have to pay on the 12th they gave me some guys email and the woman who I spoke to couldn't even guarantee he would help me

tea.ns, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe pay on the 12th and find out what is the deadline at the other school for dropping summer classes and still getting at least a partial refund? At my undergrad university, students had at least a week or so after the start of classes to drop and still get a full refund.

Thank you for the suggestions @blackberrymousse. Yes, unfortunately I will be assuming I will not hear back in time and will be paying for the classes. This is my 5th year as an undergrad and my 3rd attempt at getting into a nursing program. I can not pass this opportunity u,p even if NYU is my first choice.

Hey everyone-

I also applied priority (submitted November 14) but seems that doesn't really matter much. That said, I received an email yesterday from an admissions counselor who was looking for a course description/syllabus for two of my prereqs. Wondering if that means they are considering me for acceptance - assuming they wouldn't care if the course is suitable if they don't like what they see in my transcript, recommendations or resume and were just planning on rejecting me, right? One can only hope, lol. Sent that back right away and hoping that a decision of some sort will be forthcoming.

Agree with the others on the recommendation letters, mine were never listed on Albert either. Probably as blackberrymousse stated that since they are not required they don't put them on the list. Also agree that it doesn't matter if you are still completing prereqs as I am still finishing up Chem in my last semester of undergrad (which is not one of the courses that they wanted the syllabus for ).

Good luck all - fingers crossed! :nailbiting:

Hi NikNikV,

If you don't mind me asking, which two pre-reqs were they asking about re: course syllabi?

I'm thinking I should start digging out that stuff for all my pre-reqs just in case they ask.

It does seem like a indication that you're being positively considered since, like you said, otherwise why would they bother?

They asked me for a course description too for one of my classes! But that was weeks ago..and still haven't heard back :(

Hi blackberrymousse-

They asked for Microbiology and Nutrition. I had taken the micro in my Freshman year but since I am retaking it for a better grade and with a lab that I needed for some other programs it was easy to pull that stuff up but my Nutrition was also taken back in Sophomore year ans since then our school has changed the online course system so I wasn't able to pull the specific syllabus. Sent in course descriptions and anything else I could find, lol. Hoping that will suffice.

Trying to think positively about their consideration of my application; however veronicamarsh's comment about it taking weeks after their request to her is a bit disheartening.

veronicamarsh, keep us in the loop if you hear back.

NikNikV,

I'm sorry if that sounded discouraging! I agree with you - I don't think they'd reach out/care about course descriptions if they weren't considering us for acceptance. I think that's a good point.... Fingers crossed!
