NYU ABSN Fall 2016

Published

I am looking into applying for the NYU ABSN Fall 2016 program. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful tips and thoughts on what I should know when applying for the program.

Hi!

In the previous years it seems to have been easier to create a group, instead of a page. I don't know if this is an idea you guys are interested in.

Kinda like this:

Log into Facebook | Facebook

Unfortunately because I'm away from home, I'm not comfortable being an admin to the group as I won't have access to a computer everyday to regulate it.

Would someone else mind creating the group?

Thanks! :)

Congratulations to you all!!! No news for me yet so I am keeping my fingers, toes, eyes and everything else crossed lol. For anyone moving to the city, if you have any questions regarding area, transportation etc... feel free to ask =) ive lived in NYC (Manhattan) my whole 26.5 years of life =)

Do you have to wait an entire year prior to applying again? Congrats

Omg hopefully Tuesday , my stomach is in knots .

there is a page and a group. I think you are right the group is better Someone already created a group. NYU ABSN Fall 2016.

@myginou Is the group private or secret? I cant seem to find it when I search for it on facebook

BTW, since everyone else is doing it lol, here are my stats

i'm a college senior graduating from Stony Brook University with a degree in Health Sciences and minor in writing. My cum. gpa is around a 3.5 and my science GPA is a 3.8. They definitely do grade each applicant holistically because my health care experience is very minimal. The only health related experience I have is volunteering at a hospital in my hometown one summer, some various eboard positions I've had, and random odd jobs I've had over the past four years. I submitted two LORs from two of my writing professors because I felt they knew me best, and I'm pretty sure my essay kicked ass lol I had it revised 2532524 times haha.

I felt so nervous reading the stats and forums from previous years because I felt as if I didnt measure up, but felt beyond shocked/overjoyed when I got my letter of acceptance yesterday. Moral of my little shpiel is: dont compare yourself to others!! They look at each applicant as an individual and there are sooo many factors that go into their decision. Good luck to everyone still waiting for a decision, and cant wait to meet the rest of you guys this fall :D :D

@shaniceg it is a puplic group

Hey Justeen23!

Oh man so much to say on financial aid lol - Basically - it boils down to if this is your second degree or not, and if it is, how much of your federal student loans were used for your first degree. Once it is your second degree, you're automatically ineligible for Pell Grants, and can only use whatever remaining money you have for your lifetime limit for federal loans (I think dependent students is ~32k and independent is ~52k).

NYU gives one scholarship that I know of for financial need, it's $2,500, but other than that theres not much they give you.

There is also something called the Federal Nursing Loan which NYU can give you based on financial need, I got $5,200. But the rest I had to pay out of pocket, a small amount of federal loans from what I have left to use for undergraduate, and I took out a Sallie Mae loan. I'm from NJ so I don't qualify for TAP (NY's Tuition Assistance Program) but if you're from NY that may help somewhat.

For the most part, it's basically federal loans, and private loans. NYU does not give a lot of scholarships- there are some academic scholar, but they're based off of your GPA in nursing school so it doesn't help for all of us in the first semester, and I also hear they are really hard to get. :(

Hope this helps!

Has anyone actually calculated how long it will probably take to pay back the loans for NYU, given the expected new grad salary in this area? I'm assuming everyone has a degree already, since it's an ABSN.

Has anyone's financial aid been packaged? Mine still says pending and I am hesitant on accepting my admission until I know exact dollar amounts. :(

Me neither . Mine says award not accessible. Me too that's what holding me up for putting in a deposit. I'll call them Monday of it doesn't get updated

@FutureNurse4

Thanks! Please let me know once you know. I saw that some students may receive scholarships for the ABSN program some up to 10k. So hopefully we get something.
