Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?
@sborn
3.4 for my BA, 3.8 in my major (Politics), 3.7 prereqs plus 1.5 years of work experience in direct patient care in a community health center (HIV testing, harm reduction counseling, general care coordination) and 6 months of volunteer experience at a hospice.
My GREs were 150Q/167V/5W and my TEAS were 89% (NYU doesn't require any test scores)
I was accepted to Johns Hopkins and NYU; rejected from Oregon Health and Sciences, U Vermont, and Yale; and I'm still haven't heard from U Maryland.
Admissions offices aren't blowing hot air up our rears when they say that they assess applicants holistically. I worked hard to write killer essays. I picked professors and supervisors who knew me really well for my recommendation letters and I sent them my resume and application essays. They gave me good feedback and it help inform my letters so the whole application was cohesive, you know?
Apply to a mix of programs. I applied to 2 ABSN, 2 direct entry MSN, 1 traditional BSN, and 1 direct entry DNP. There are more qualified applicants than spots in competitive programs, so make it really personal and apply to at least 5.
Try not to focus on what you perceive to be deficits (I know how hard this can be; just ask my mom/friends/boyfriend what a downer I could be this past year...). Work hard to communicate what makes you great. What Color is my Parachute is a book about building a resume and applying to jobs, but the exercises can help make you write a good educational application too.
Also, start putting aside a little money for application fees and standardized tests...

still waiting as well. i don't know if there's a rhyme or reason to when they send acceptances. my younger sister received an email for traditional undergrad at 1:30 in the morning on the weekend.
