Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?
Hey guys I started this program in Fall 2014 and I'm in my 2nd semester. I got my acceptance letter on April 8th. Here's my youtube channel documenting my 1st semester and where I'm at now in my 2nd semester if you're interested https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN6Tawcq3aCschJFybJ3vwg/videos
I haven't lived off campus yet (I'm currently looking for a place around Gramercy park), but I wasn't a huge fan of housing because it was kind of like dorm life all over again it made me feel like a freshman. The kitchen and bathroom were tiny as well as the rooms but hey that's New York I guess. I don't remember the exact cost of housing but I know it's very expensive, but a great location.

For housing for the accelerated program, do you apply as an undergraduate or a graduate student because I know the program is technically listed as an undergraduate program. Also, do you know if its possible to request another incoming accelerated nursing student as a roommate?
You apply as an undergrad student. I don't know if you can request another person to live with. I know it's harder to get housing if you're an accelerated student because the traditional undergrads are treated as a higher priority. The only reason I got housing was because I had connections with NYU.

Any luck finding employment after graduation?
Yep! I had no problem not only finding a job, but the job I wanted. The same goes for my friends, they all got the jobs they wanted too!
Like kmichellex asked, I would also like to know what the schedule is like. Are clinicals two, 12-hour shifts each week? (Because isn't every other week SIM - so is there 24 hours of SIM on those weeks?)
-Hospital Clinical is typically from 7-4 (sometimes earlier), Sim in your first semester for AE is like 5/6 hours but then it switches to 3-4 hours, HAP Sim is like 3 hours. For adult and elder you switch every week between clinical and sim, HAP (health assessment) is sim every week and no hospital time, peds/maternity/psych/community don't switch in between but rather 3 weeks sim then 3 weeks clinical.
Class hours are probably different now that NYUCN has its own building.
Should we keep our text books to study for the NCLEX?
Well I did, but I didn't use them at all. There are some textbooks, Iggy, which you use for 3 semesters. There is a set of 3 books that is like scope of practice/ethics which I never opened, same goes for dosage calc book. You don't need the APA manual, because you can look it all up online. Pharm and peds book were a waste. Well pharm actually is pretty detailed, but peds I just threw out because it was too basic. If you are going to invest in only 1 textbook make sure its the Iggy textbook and health assessment, its your bible. The others you might be able to scrape by with online versions/borrowing friends/going to library.
