NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application and my transcripts to NYU for the ABSN program beginning in fall 2013! I am very excited but surprised that we will be hearing so late about an admission decision. Is anyone else applying?

Helwafufu,

Me too! NYU is the only school I applied to and the only school I want to go to also. Lets hope for the best like you said!!!

Feeling the same way! A little paranoid, and frustrated... my apologies for stalking this forum lol

I applied to Concordia and NYU. I'm hoping for Concordia, but I was wait-listed so we'll see.... if NYU students all get that little scholarship, that will make it fairly comparable to Concordia. Concordia is about $50K, and the scholarship would make it $60K. However, I live in Westchester and I don't really want to do the commute! Sigh. Either way, I hope I get in SOMEWHERE. I really don't want to have to reapply another year. I'll be 28 this fall and I already feel behind enough as it is.

Does anyone know what job prospects are like for ABSN grads? Generally I hear it's good to get an externship but ABSN students probably won't have time. Given that there are roughly 250 students being cranked out each year at NYU alone I can't imagine it's easy to find a job in the city.

Has anyone heard anything about if they give scholarships? I heard NYU doesn't give any money at all. I did the math and with tuition and fees alone it seems to come out to $86k. That seems like a hefty price for the year. I hope they give out some kind of scholarship money because once you add living expenses and other related costs for school we're looking at over 100k!

Regarding jobs, all I know is antecdotal. The recent grads I spoke with said it is getting better but still not good. My interpretation is the market was really tough and now just mildly tough.

35 days to go for those of us still waiting!

What type of scholarship did people who were already admitted to NYU receive? I receive a little under $4k a semester and it seems that most people received a bit more than this...

Just got an acceptance packet in the mail. It said FAFSA had to be filed by February 15th. Did anyone file after the 15th and still get financial aid from the school? I like that NYU starts in the Fall, but the price is scary, and I haven't heard many people getting any kind of money.

are you referring to the NYUCN scholarship? if so, that sounds about close to what i got for that portion specifically. i'm not a good example of what to expect, since i am coming from a very well paying financial profession and as FAFSA is built from prior year earnings (i.e. tax return)....I am not your usual student entering a full-time professional program. hey....that part is free money, i'm not gonna complain at all.

@binggrad what Do you mean you got it in The mail (postage mail Or Email?)

@ binggrad u got it via email or postage mail?

accepted on april 19th. have none of my prereqs completed, so i will be doing them in the fall 2013 and then once completed i will immediately start the accelerated program.

credentials:

state university with BS in Marketing/Finance (class of 2012, so i am less than 1 year out of college)

gpa: 3.7

current job: less than 1 year in marketing firm in nyc

volunteer: help out at a day care, community service through my company

honestly i dont know how i got in, but from my credentials ... i'd say the strongest part of my application was my personal essay (seeing as to how my prior bachelors has nothing to do with nursing nor does my current job). my essay was about spending a month in the hospital with a sick family member who eventually passed away and how this sparked an interest in changing my career into a more meaningful field.

let me know if you guys have any questions! before my acceptance i was constantly badgering the admissions office about the program and my qualifications.
