Hello,
I am a new grad in nyc having trouble. I just started work in a nursing home bc I need the money. I would like a job in a hospital, any job or any hospital! Is there anything I should be doing or anyway I can do to stand out? I've been messaging recruiters on LinkedIn but only one has given me a call and im not even sure what's going to be the outcome of that.

Hiring freezes happen due to financial struggles. Plenty of hospitals are struggling since Covid hit and many do have a hiring freeze. Even those that don't may not be hiring new grads or running new grad residencies at this time.
I do have a BSN, it's specified on my resume as well as all of my experience in addition to having BLS and ACLS. I called them today. HR stated they are hiring - there is no hiring freeze at this time. They also said they have plenty of nursing positions they are trying to fill but there is no way to follow up on the status of applications. We have to wait for call backs but they do update statuses online if they are going to reject the application. Hope this info helps!

Did they state if they are hiring new grads though?

They asked if I had experience, I have 2 years of experience so I'm not sure if they are hiring new grads. I will ask how they feel about hiring new grads! I'm sure there are plenty of people curious about that for sure.

Thank you for this advice. I didn't want to move but the job market is a lot tougher than expected in the city! A bellevue recruiter told me there was only 2 open departments for a new grad in that big hospital! Neither was accute care so I didn't pursue it. I've already sent in some Stony brook applications

I’m also from nyc and wanted to work in Manhattan but the market is too difficult for new grads. Better to get experience now in a less competitive market and come back to nyc in 1-2 years.

By any chance did the recruiter at Bellevue mention which of their departments hire new grads? I've been applying there for months now and never get a response.

They have psychiatry, critical care (need 2 years med surg), and clinics. All those positions you see are filled, they just don't close them until the day the person is physically on the unit.
