  1. I’m a new graduate nurse from NYC working now at Stony Brook Hospital. SBU has a lot of new grad opportunities. Same also for Upstate New York and DC/Virginia/Maryland hospitals. If your goal is to work in a major NYC hospital, your best chance might involve having to relocate for a year, get experience and then return back to NYC.
  2. I’m in the ICU stepdown.
  3. I also wanted to work in NYC but the job market is too competitive. I instead accepted a position at Stony Brook Hospital in Long Island to get experience now and reapply in NYC in 1-2 years. A lot of my friends got positions easily at Stony Brook Hospital and in their speciality. There are a lot of new graduate positions for acute care, maternity and pediatrics.
  4. I’m also from nyc and wanted to work in Manhattan but the market is too difficult for new grads. Better to get experience now in a less competitive market and come back to nyc in 1-2 years.
  5. If your okay moving, try Stony Brook Hospital in Suffolk Long Island. They are hiring new grads into their nurse 1 positions.
  6. If your okay moving and want to stay in the local metro area, try Stony Brook Hospital in Suffolk County. They are hiring new grads for various specialties. After spend months trying for NYU/NYC hospitals (many want experience), it might be better to get experience now in a less saturated market and then reapply for NYU/NYC in 1-2 years.

I’m also in the NYC area with BSN and license. Graduated this May. I’m still hoping to get a hospital position in NYC but I’m also applying out of state. If your okay moving, Maryland/DC/Virginia have plenty of new grad opportunities. I figured that if I relocate right away and get critical care experience now, I will put myself in a strong position to return to NYC in 1-2 years, since I have RN experience.
  9. Hey everyone, I'm from the NYC area. I am a May 2020 BSN grad licensed in New York. Next week, I will interview for an ICU position at JHH. My concern is that there may not be enough time for me to join the October start date. The nurse recruiter sent me a video link to an RN Info Session. I see that they only have limited ICU orientation dates, and the last one for this year is in early October. Is there anyone hired for the ICU that will start in November? The early November date will give me time to relocate and start MD licensure.
