NVCC Spring 2018 Hybrid Program

Published

Hey all! Starting a thread for those applying to NVCC (Northern Virginia Com Coll) for the spring nursing program! This is my second time applying - tried for last Spring but didn't make it - my grades are a mix of mostly B's and some A's and I got 87.5, 80 and 90 on my TEAS sections. I really wish they'd let us use LORs or at least consider work experience. And I'm so glad they raised the TEAS requirements back to 78 - I heard that threw everything off for last year and that's why so many people applied. I also heard that they are accepting more people overall this year, so fingers crossed!!!

May the odds be ever in our favor

How is this possible? I had a 3.75GPA. For the Teas, I had 100 in math, 90 reading and 84 in grammar. I live in Alexandria and I didn't get in. This is just beyond ridiculous! This is my third and last time trying... :(

WHAT! OMG! That is nuts. There honestly seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who gets in!

No you do not have to have all 90s. I talked with a few people who got into traditional with 70s and 60s. I scored higher than them in all sections and did not get accepted. I live by a campus and have completed a ton of classes. Running out of classes to take trying to get accepted so I have started working on classes that qualify for Masons nursing. I honestly don't get it! There seems to be no real method in selecting applicants. I took the NAS classes because that's what I was advised to do and now it is holding me back from applying to other programs because other schools don't accept them! It's frustrating! I just hope and pray that those who do make it are accepted because they are going to super great RNs and help many!!

I'm on the same boat! I already took all pre-reqs, all co-reqs. Now I'm taking Biomedical Ethics and Spanish for Health Providers just to still be enrolled in the school...

Just saw your post on all your scores too!!! WOW! I am so sorry! I took biomedical ethics- great class but it would be great if I could take classes in the program! I am considering taking the BIO sequence to start applying elsewhere but so much money to take classes I basically already took. Not to mention it will put me back another year or two. I dont know what to think anymore!

No giving up. We hope for the best now, then after we get our letters, those of us who don't get then talk about other options.

Hey there. I'm new to this forum. I was told yesterday by a co-worker that they are only accepting 24 people into the Spring program. When I spoke to someone about the campus about an update, I was told they are still reviewing applications and have not done any notifications yet, but that the required orientation date would be November 8th (confirmed date) and the back up date for orientation would be November 15th should the initial date be cancelled for whatever reason. I don't know about you guys, but I am stressed the hell out and I am trying not to lose my mind while we wait for an answer.

I'm guessing we receive an email regarding domicile review first, right? That's what I've read in past forums. If that's true, we'll know the decision is near! I was anticipating we would find out in the next few days but after reading everyone's comments, perhaps not. The wait is torture, but stay positive everyone! We got this.

What is domicile review?

I believe it's where they sort everyone according to priority status based on where we live. Like the cities/counties served by NOVA will be chosen over someone out of their service area. Sorry, lol, I don't think I explained that very well.

It is extremely frustrating how they have no real explanation behind who they accept and reject. So upsetting as for various reasons this school is the only option for so many of us. I am annoyed at how disorganized NOVA is about the application updates and overall program but as it is in such demand we have to deal with it sadly. Good luck to each and every one of you, it ain't over till it's over guys!!!

I remember a few years ago they used to have something posted on the website that showed their scoring system. It showed how many points you got for your grades in the science classes how many points you got for being a Virginia resident versus non-resident and so forth. I can't find anything like that on their website anymore.

Also...no email yet.
