NVCC Spring 2018 Hybrid Program

Published

Hey all! Starting a thread for those applying to NVCC (Northern Virginia Com Coll) for the spring nursing program! This is my second time applying - tried for last Spring but didn't make it - my grades are a mix of mostly B's and some A's and I got 87.5, 80 and 90 on my TEAS sections. I really wish they'd let us use LORs or at least consider work experience. And I'm so glad they raised the TEAS requirements back to 78 - I heard that threw everything off for last year and that's why so many people applied. I also heard that they are accepting more people overall this year, so fingers crossed!!!

May the odds be ever in our favor

You should get in, no doubt... I think they might send out decisions tomorrow. Twice I have applied and it has always been on a Wednesday. How did you score so high if I may ask especially on the English and reading. Been struggling with those.

I used khanacademy for most of study and the ATI TEAS book. The NOVA testing center website also had pre-recorded study sessions that helped. I also used quizlet here and there. one of the advisers at the MEC gave me the links when he emailed me a follow up email to our visit.

So I just called the MEC... they told me they are still processing the applications and no one will hear until the end of October/early November

But I see according to the calendar sent, open registration for this program begins on nov 13. So my guess is that acceptance has to be before November 13

But the letter specifically says nobody gets a letter before anyone else. All letters will go out at the same time.

A few things I have learned since apply for Hybrid last year- 1) everyone you speak with at the nursing department has a different answer 2) acceptance notifications are generally sent out between 4-6 weeks from deadline 3) people who are accepted are always notified first 4) though they say they go by TEA score's/GPA, that is not the case I scored higher on TEAS than several people who were excepted for traditional 2 of them did have slightly higher GPA but I have also taken more than pre-req classes. I think those with score in 90's do get accepted (as they should) but the rest seems to be luck of the draw. I also noticed that acceptance tends to go out on Fridays, almost seems purpose so they do not have to answer calls when people are anxiously waiting to hear if they have been accepted or denied after the letters go out. When applicants do call, they are told "not everyone has been notified yet" which seems to be false hope from what I have seen

Sorry for typos- you get what I am saying!!! Wishing you all much luck! If this is the same as traditional emails should go out tomorrow afternoon

That makes me feel slightly confident. I have all the co requisites done- the psych and hum courses (I have a B.S. in psychology from Virginia Tech) except the HLT. Ugh, guess we'll see

Stated perfectly, I would add that your address matters too. A classmate didn't get in last Hybrid because she "belonged" to Lord Fairfax and not NOVA. She had a 4.0 and above 95 on all sections of the TEAS!

@nur722, question please. do you have to have all 90s? I have a 76 in grammar, and this brought my total down.

I know someone who got in the fall of this year w a score in the 60s

Feeling hopeless at this point

How is this possible? I had a 3.75GPA. For the Teas, I had 100 in math, 90 reading and 84 in grammar. I live in Alexandria and I didn't get in. This is just beyond ridiculous! This is my third and last time trying... :(
