Hey all! Starting a thread for those applying to NVCC (Northern Virginia Com Coll) for the spring nursing program! This is my second time applying - tried for last Spring but didn't make it - my grades are a mix of mostly B's and some A's and I got 87.5, 80 and 90 on my TEAS sections. I really wish they'd let us use LORs or at least consider work experience. And I'm so glad they raised the TEAS requirements back to 78 - I heard that threw everything off for last year and that's why so many people applied. I also heard that they are accepting more people overall this year, so fingers crossed!!!
May the odds be ever in our favor
"Have one High School Chemistry course or CHM 101 or CHM 111 with a grade of "C" or higher." I copied this directly from the requirements listed for the program.
Oh... You taking about high school requirements? OK.. I was focused on prerequisites and what helps with admissions.. Didn't think we'll be talking about that here.
The application does say college science has to be in last 10 years. My hs chem is over 10 years. I seriously dont understand how different people say different things. It should be pretty simple to follow one standard rule, one standard answer etc
High school classes do not expire. Yes, it is the college courses that they say should be less than ten years old. All in all, when we shift a discussion, try to be very clear so others can follow and don't get confused. The person who brought up chemistry as a requirement was rightfully taking about it as a high school requirement. If you do not have high school Chem, you can meet it with certain college courses someone also listed above.
She was told her hs chem was too old because it was over 10 years old. Why would the school tell her that if it is not the case? When I say different people saying different things- I mean the different people in the nursing division itself. One told her her hs chem was too old but that is not the case. Someone calls and told-no processing emails went out, yet some people got them weeks prior. Someone else calls and told there will be no processing emails this time- I got two myself. One before the other person was told none have gone out and another after the other person told none would be going out. Requirements say they use TEA's and GPA but that does not seem to be the case either. In previous application periods when some are accepted and others call to check status, they are told not emails have been sent-when there never seems to be another batch. I have also heard applicants being told all acceptance and denials go out at the same time and that has not been true in previous years either. Just hard to know what is accurate and what is not at this point

Oh guys.. You couldn't have said it better. I have attended classes with people taking courses they don't need at the advice of counselors(who are supposed to be knowledgeable). I have heard many many different things come out from different people at the department ot school. Why is it so hard to say you don't know something instead of churning up your own law? In fact, I don't know what to say.
I decided if I don't get in, I'm not wasting time with NVCC anymore and I'm taking the rest of the pre reqs to get into GMUs Accelerated BSN program
