NVCC Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi Everyone!

I really wanted to begin a thread about NVCC's traditional Nursing Program to begin in Fall 2015 (Applications are due May 21 2015). I would like that everybody share her/his experience applying to this program while waiting for the acceptance letters..... and good luck everyone.

PS: i am waiting for my application being processed notification email.

Did anybody receive this notification yet? please let me know :)

Thanks

TEXAS81,

As a rough estimate for the cost of required books for NUR 111 and NUR 150, maybe look online at the MEC bookstore.

does anyone know about the HIPAA certificate?

I honestly can't remember what we needed a card for.

If they do it the same way they did it for us:

Primarily 90% of your books will be in a big boxed set, it will be at a several hundred $ discount and come with all the software you WILL need to complete assignments. Then there will be a couple extra books to purchase that are from a separate publisher. This will be all of your books for the program except maybe 1 or 2. The total cost was around $1350. For financial aid purchasers you will have to wait until 2 weeks before the term starts to purchase. Normally there is a $1000 limit per term and you have to pay out of pocket for the rest. Last year they allowed us to go up to $1200, so that may happen again, I don't know.

You'll also need to purchase your uniforms and patches, pretty cheap at the bookstore. Name badges can be purchased at the bookstore or any number of retailers publicly.

*all subject to change

My total expenditure last summer to get started, with all the things needed to purchase was around $2100. Books, uniforms, shoes, background check, , physical, lab supplies, nursing tools, things I'm sure I can't remember right now.

HIPPA cert will be on your orientation page, somewhere in the downloadable files.

Also, if someone hasn't, get a facebook page going. It's been a HUGE help for us. Some of us will be willing to join to help answer questions too.

Hello future classmates, and by future, I meant from this coming Semester.

I might as well leave some help for you guys who still didn't sign up for the CPR course that is MANDATORY for all nursing students at NVCC to have in hand.

The textbook you will need is "BLS for Healthcare Providers (AHA 90-1038); ISBN: 9781616690397." It seems that they are going to make us take a exam at the end of that one day class. I just ordered mine from Amazon, and by my previous experience in using the bookstore at NVCC, well, when I am able to, I am going to avoid Barns and Noble like the Ebola virus.

Also, for those that didn't sign up for taking both Credit & Non-Credit courses, you will need to start another application process for the NVCC itself, and click on the non-credit courses. You can just call the NVCC tel to ask them for help in doing that.

See you guys and ladies soon! Finally, it is about time that I have classmates that are serious for achieving their goals, and not just goofing around; I am sure that all of you guys experienced them during the prerequisite courses during our "proving period" in NVCC.

Ah, such joy. Math exam review, CPR exam review, and all those agents that will provoke our artificial immune response that we have learned during our Microbiology course, as well as ordering weird V neck uniforms and Stethoscopes that our friends might think we have some weird fetishes should they not know we are nursing students or those that are planning to enter medical school.

Enjoy your summer vacation everyone! The time for actual implementations is approaching soon, and we have proved ourselves by gaining entrance into the Traditional Nursing program.

Guys, isn't the question 41 on the math study guide wrong?

According to my calculations, the given answer of 3/4 for problem #41 is correct. If it's of any help, I wrote out my steps, scanned it, and have shared it on Dropbox. You can view it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/65yyo784m3r54r8/Math%20problem%20number%2041.pdf?dl=0

Thank you djasper. I'll check it out. :) It has been bugging me so much.

Djasper, when 1/200 is being divided by 150, shouldn't it be

1/200 X 1/150? (not 1/200 X 150/1)

The equation ends up being 1/200 divided by 1/150, not 150. The 150 is in the denominator which makes it 1/150, not 150. You end up with a fraction of 1/200 over a fraction of 1/150; therefore, to divide one fraction by another fraction you have to invert the second fraction and then multiply. Since the equation is 1/200 divided by 1/150, you invert the second fraction and multiple. The equation becomes 1/200 x 150/1.

The review guide, section "O," gives an example of dividing a fraction by another fraction.

Ahh, thank you Djasper. I knew I was doing something weird. It has been so long since Algebra.
