I took a look at the Fall schedule for NUR 111 and saw the expected LEC, CLN, and LAB sections but was curious what DIS was. I noticed most of the lectures are scheduled from 1-4:25 on Monday and that DIS was only available from 4:30 to 6pm and also on Mondays. So, what is DIS and does everyone have to take that class?
My guess is that it is for people who choose to have lectures on Mondays because the lectures on Mondays are 3.5 hours while the lectures on Fridays are 5 hours...

Could possibly be!! I would contact the school to find out for sure. In the past--and yes there have been big changes to the program, so what i know, probably doesn't really pertain anymore,lol-------lectures were held on 1 day, and on that 1 day there was 2 time periods, an early one in the am, and the late one in the pm. And they started on a different subject! Not always the case, as this semester, still have the am/pm class, but we started off exactly the same, and follow the same syllabus. I would contact the school and find out for sure, might change your mind on when you want to take classes! Have you considered taking the lecture online?? I attend class, but have viewed a friends online account to watch the lecture online and it is ok, the voice quality could be better, but the nice thing about the online lecture is ur able to view it over and over and over again. Best of luck
Wow, I didn't even know that was an option! Lecture online for traditional students? That is good news.
I don't know if it still is, as the program keeps changing.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I am definitely going to ask if that is in the planning for the Fall. That would be a nice option to have.
if you ask now (which I would) they will probably say certain things are not confirmed, but to cal back later, lol
Good point, I am sure if I remain patient I will get all that good information at the orientation. If I get accepted that is... :)
As i recall, when i got accepted, they sent out a letter, saying I was accepted, and in that same letter it gave me a few options, such as the traditional program, or doing the accelerated program, or the Online program (which didn't start until January). I know some of us traditional students, that had taken classes for the first 2 semesters, were able to switch over in the last 2 semesters to the online lectures! Of course, who knows what they allow now. For the most part, its a great program!

Each program has a specific deadline date to apply. So you are applying for the program you want to be in. For example, the deadline for the Online Accelerated Program was 3/25/09 and it starts in May. You really do not get to choose to much during the first semester, they pretty much place you in your clinical. You choose your lab and everyone in that particular program has lecture on the same day at the same time for 5 hours.
ohhh, ok. SO what day of the week do the traditional students have their lecture?

First year we had lecture on Mondays, second year it is Thursdays. Again, everything is subject to change, and I know they are changing many things.
I am a traditional student who waited until the last semester to take online lecture and I love it. The only thing missing is that I can't socialize with my classmates, which, oh well! The benefits are great, I take my exams online too, and the BEST thing is not stressing over getting stuck in traffic and being too late to take the exam, especially for the morning lecture. I stay home, take the exam & watch the lecture in my quiet house with my pjs on. LOL one of the lecturers even calls us the "pajama crowd". And you don't actually have to see the lecture when it's going on, you can watch it later and as many times as you like. I always taped the lectures when I was in class, so now I don't have to mess with it, as it's taped for me. So I recommend the online . . . I wish I'd done it last semester. Oh yeah, since we take our exams online sometimes we get our grades right away . . . we're not supposed to, but sometimes there's a glitch :wink2:.
If you know an online student and they are nice enough, you can get their log in info and watch at ur leisure as well. I must say I have been fairly disappointed with the online voice quality on some of the lectures. Not sure I would like taking the exams online, as you only see 1 question at a time, and you can't go back! Sure it mimicks the NCLEX,but I liek to review my exam. But having the optionto review the lectures on ur own time is a huge plus. Not sure why they don;t make it available to everyone, most likely as most wouldnt not attend class, lol
