Hello , Everyone I'm a third semester student at Northern Virginia Community College and I know this is a bit early to be inquiring about nursing school but I just would like to get a head start on getting to know everyone interested in applying! I'm excited for the upcoming semester! i have some ice breakers to get this conversation started as well. Has anyone taken the TEAS test yet and if so how was your experience? and also do you have any remaining classes to take before applying.

3.the tie breaker is if you have an A in Bio 141.
They also determine where you live as well. They take someone in Prince William, Alexandria and Fairfax counties 1st before other counties. Something to do with traveling to clinical sites.
You get points for each number item. For example 4.0-3.5=3 pts...
Teas 90-80=4 points, 80-70=3 points and so on. They add up all your points and put everyone on a spread sheet. When the Dean tells them how many spots she needs, then they select the number on the spread sheet and those letters go out. Pretty cut and dry. He explained this to me on a piece of paper the last time I spoke to him in person.
Do you know if having corequisites happen to count towards their point system as well?... And if they count all TEAS attempts?
Also, did anyone notice the top of their TEAS report?? Because mine says "RETAKE 4", and I've definitely never taken the teas before. I'm not sure if that's standard or if that should concern me.

I did all the requirements, A on my prerequisites, 86% on TEAS, but when I submitted my application the other day I got an email saying my high school transcripts aren’t accepted because it’s from an international school. I didn’t see anywhere on the requirements list that high school transcripts needs to be evaluated by a specific company. Even on the info session it said HS diploma. Anyway, I don’t think I’m getting in so now I’m just looking for Plan B.
I think they were asking for HS transcripts for math and science (bio and Chem) eligibility. I feel like if you have taken those courses at college-level, perhaps you still may have a shot of talking to them.
I also sent them international HS transcripts... But I have already taken calculus and college chem courses, and it would be upsetting if that's not enough verifiable proof of one's academic abilities. I just submitted my application yesterday, so we shall see if I receive the same email. ?
What's your TEAS breakdown?

No I don't think they count Teas retakes. "retake 4" is just the version of the test. ATI has several. The test center just picks which one to give at that time. They just look at scores. I cant say for sure about co reqs. What I stated prior was just told to me from Mr. Shaw in the program Dept.
However, it is my assumption that the Mec counseling team looks for co reqs. It's like a tier system, if you don't have all the co reqs plus other stuff, then a file will not get forwarded to the Nursing dept. Or if they dont have enough applicants they send incomplete files up for exceptions. As in my case last year. I came to this assumption, because I have called that school so many times to make sure my ducks were in a row this year. I found out in December that they changed the requirements. They added an elective requirement. So I had to make sure I had an electives to count. So I called student services, a lady I spoke with told me I had enough electives. She also mentioned how she looks over the co reqs before sending applications to the program dept.
All I can do now is just pray and stay positive. Oh and stalk my email account for updates, lol.

GPA in pre-reqs or overall?

Thank you so much for all this info! It is a bit concerning how many times they've changed the application requirements. I even ended up taking pharmacology, medical terminology and micro to fill in the credits while I complete both A&P classes.
I wish I wouldve stayed on top of the process as you have. I really hope your diligence pays off this year.

I know the changes are nerve wrecking as hell. And get this! The Teas reqs might change again lol, smh. There is a document somewhere on the NOVA site saying so. This was also told to me this week while at the school. I have learned the hard way. I got accepted into Prince William LPN program last year but gave up my seat to try again for the RN at NOVA. I got accepted into the HIM program last year and gave up my seat. I will not give up yet because this is what I really want. Even if I dont get in this year, I will be the first in line to take the TEAS in JULY. I have faith.
