Is anyone out there?
I really need to switch Clinicals with someone. I have the Wednesday 7AM-8PM at VHC and really need a Monday or Friday clinical. I just re-entered into the Nursing program after a year of being in hiatus. :zzzzz Is anyone willing to switch with me, please?
Thanks for listening.
Yeah, there's something to be said for that . . . LOL my dh has told me it will be good for me :nuke: but mostly what I feel is that we shouldn't be afraid to ask questions, and we ARE. That's my biggest problem with her. You can never tell what's going to send her on a rampage and no one wants to be the target, so, speaking for myself, I am afraid to ask any questions. Luckily the nurses I've worked with so far have been super nice so I can use them as my resource if anything comes up that I'm not sure about . . . or even the techs, for that matter. I will have plenty to say when it's time for my review but let's face it, the school obviously knows what she's like and they keep her on for whatever reason . . . so yeah, I will survive and move on, and hope I get an awesome preceptor.
Sorry for ranting, it's definitely a subject I have plenty to say about!!!
Ya, thats not any fun!! Luckily one only has 7 clinical days. Too bad as she has piles and piles of knowledge. I have only chatted with her once and she was fine.
I belive my preceptorship rotation at Reston will be on a med-Surg floor. I had Reston as my #1 choice and med surg #1, But I said i was happy to go anywhere and whatever floor as long as it wasn't OB,lol Clinical today, need more coffee.
Or maybe we have 14 clinical days, since it's two days a week :wink2:. We missed last week and she's adding on an hour a week to make it up. LOL yeah either way it's only, what five more weeks? Something like that?
If you asked for Med-Surg I'm sure you will get it. Most people honestly don't want to do Med-Surg, myself included, so I'm sure not a lot of competition for that slot! I wasn't so sure about NICU but I got it . . . good thing so I can see if I like it before time to apply.
As you have heard me a zillion times, lol both my sisters are RN's and started off on a Med-Surg floor, and they said it helped them a lot, so thats my plan, get as much Med-Surg as possible. I'm just happy to do anything, its all good, not as if one has to do it for a lifetime.
I prefer the 1 long 13 hr rotation to the 2-6.5 hr rotations! I find the days go by pretty fast, as ur always busy! Thats one great thing as a student, if the RN ur assigned to ya doesn't have anything for ya to do, go find someone that does. So far the Rn's at fair oaks have been awesome, having a blast. And the prof we have is super awesome!
Oh, and I am glad you got your first choice in the NICU! That's awesome. You are going to have a great preceptorship.
I had originally wanted to do something in OB/Labor and Delivery, but when I was there I just ended up feeling like I needed other experience first and felt kind of intimidated by it. I requested my preceptorship in oncology. I guess that is med surg? I am not sure, some places it is considered med/surg and some places it seems very separate. Anyway, it's definitely what I want to do for a while and later on I will probably end up back somewhere in OB. I loved it though, and know I will do it in the future sometime.
Flames, how do you have clinical on Sundays and you have a preceptorship? I thought we only had 3 choices.Krenee, sorry you are having such a hard time. I completely understand, she can be abrasive. I know I really didn't feel like it had been a good experience until after I was done with her rotation, LOL.
Because I'm cool, lol!! No, there were to many second half preceptoree's to fit in those 3 assigned classes. Since I was the very first one to hand in my completed form, i got the offer of picking my own clinical from the "c" or
"d" sections OR not take the offer and take my chances on getting the class i wanted. I took the offer, lol So I have clinicals on Saturdays! I rather go with the "known" than the "unknown"

That sucks that it's so much walking on eggshells. At least for me though, it really increased my confidence so much once I was done with her rotation.
