I am starting a new thread to track cases from NVC - embassy to GC.
The best news for RN in China, Phillippines and India has been great and informative thread, but I think it is more appropriate and convenient if we start a new thread.
Also with the rapid scheduling of interviews for most of us, I am looking beyond the CP and anticipating the GC!
The August interview schedules are out already in India, and recently in the Philippines and hopefully in China.
Here is my case details

Hey Rep,
actually we have the same case wid crumvy...we are batchmates on d processing of our papers and we both got interviewed last september...thanks so much for d info..it's so helpful...actually i also have to take d NCLEX wen i get there to the states...how do u find d exam Rep?!?! how many weeks did u study?!?! did u really go through a lot of Q & A practice tests to pass the exam?!?! i've got all d exam CDs here but i dont think i can finish everything now...whoa!!! please give us more info on what to bring (necessary things) when we travel to d US..at least i will be prepared...how much pocket money did u bring wen u get there?!?! did u immediately work right after u receive ur SSN and interim permit?!!? can u apply for an interim permit even if ur still here in the Philippines but will be leaving for US very soon or u can only apply for interim permit wen u get there?!?! please advise me on dis one..thanks so much and more power!!
Hi Titanium,
To start with, and I am not scaring you, althoug this is my case since I took and passed my CGFNS way back in 1992 and my mind is rusty already so I find the exam difficult. Although I took and pass my LVN and RN on the first take , I stopped at 85, the minimum, for the LVN and stopped at 119 for the RN.
I used Saunders Comprehenssive Review 2nd and I finished it in fours months because I was working already and it is difficult to study because of the schedules. Sometimes, I missed 5 days with out really studying. I was able to finished all the 3,000 questions of the 2nd ed CD. I also have with me the Saunders Comprehensive 3rd ed ( cd 4,000 questions ) and Saunders Q and A 3rd ed ( cd 5,000 questions ) but I only finished around 50% for each of those two cds.
If you really have time, my advice , is read the comprehensive reveiw, do not try to memorize but try to understand the disease.
I also advise you to follow Suzzane Study Guide/Tips. You can PM her or go to the NCLEX forum in this site.
And when you go to the Q and A , try to understand and read the rationales why the choice is correct or wrong. Because of the 3 choices that are wrong you learned 3 reasons why.
About money, it depends on how long you are going to be "unemployed" when you arrived here or what state you are going. No idea on this but it is up to you how much you are going to prepare or bring.
Yes, you can apply for an interim permit ( temporary license ) while you are in the Philippines and just update your file once you are here by clling the BON. It is better to apply for the interim permit while you are here. You never know once you arrive here and that it will take a long time for them to process and you will lose valuable time.
You can not work without a SSN so it is important to get the SSN once you arrive here. It takes around 7 to 10 days.
And don't forget the post I wrote to crumvy.

Rep, your insights are very helpful. Thanks for sharing them with us.
By the way, I just had my medical exam. Thanks to all those who contributed tips and advices in this forum... they made the entire process so much easier.
Best advice:
For Day 1 (Tues), go to SL in the afternoon. My family and I went at 1:30 pm. There was no lining up in ALL the steps. From digital picture-taking, x-rays, labs, Vitals/Eye exam, PE to Immunization review, everything proceeded in a breeze. We finished at 3:30pm.
Day 2 was more stressful. We arrived at 1pm and went to 2nd floor for immunization. My child had her shots around 2:30pm... then my husband at 3:30... I had mine at 4pm. We went to the releasing area together and got our x-ray plates and immunization records at 5:30pm.
Hopefully the interview goes well too.
Hopefully the interview goes well too.
Just answer what is being ask. don't try to explain unless asked to. If a question requires "yes" or "no" then by all means answer by that. In my case, our interview lasted between 5 to 10 minutes. It is so fast you did not know that it is finished already.
Good luck!
Hi all,
I arrived in Los Angeles last August at last ; it took 5 weeks for my SSN to arrived afterwards, with which I was able to get my California RN license another two weeks after that (passed NCLEX in 2004 but they won't release the license without the SSN).
At the port of entry at LAX, a temporary I-155 stamp was put on my passport, but I am just wondering, can anybody tell me how long it takes for the actual green card to arrive in the mail?

Hi everyone!!! i had my consular interview last August but i was not yet given a visa because my petitioner (the hospital) had merged with other hospital and the embassy is asking for additional documentary proof about this merging. The consul said that there will be "bit of a delay". we had already submitted the papers that they are asking last september (2nd wk) and the embassy said that we just wait for a notice to arrive. Will i still be affected by the retrogression? am i entittled for a reserved visa? tnx

hi Crumvy,
You went overboard with the compliments. Just want to help as others have done to me in the past.
I would really advise you to seriously study while you are still there and if you are going to take your NCLEX once you here. Although in my case , I "opened" my Saunders when I arrived here and working at the same time on a Interim Permit. You would find it difficult to study once you arrived here and at the same time adjusting to the new environment.
I don't know what state you are going to. So prepare enough warm clothings because it is winter here by that time. We were not able to do that because of my fault, I thought the weather of Ca is just the same with Baguio. So we suffered a little bit.:wink2:
Also when you arrive, apply immedaitely for a SSN. You really need that when you apply for utilities like telephone, electricity and even open a bank account. Apply also a checking/debit account because you need checks when you pay your bills here although you can do online payment with your checking account.
Also apply for a secured credit card, when you are new here, you do not have a credit history and with out a credit history you can not get loans or get better terms when you apply for a loans or buying a new car. A secured credit card is a credit with a collateral. You deposit an amount of money and used that as your credit limit.. In six months, you will start getting offers from banks with pre-approved credit card and even pre-approved loans. Pre-approved means the offer to you is approved already by the bank or lending agency and it is up for you to accept it.
You can apply for a secured credit card in any bank here.
Also guard your SSN, don't share it to any person except when you apply for a job, a loan or services like electricities or telephone, etc.. Identity theft is common here. Identity theft means somebody steals your personal information and use it for their own personal and financial gains with you receiving the consequences of their actions.
If possible if you do not know how to drive, better start learning how to drive there. Driving lessons here are so expensive. Learn to drive on an automatic transmission.
Well, I can not think of anything else. Good luck!
